Prajwal Revanna is an Indian politician and member of the Janata Dal (Secular) Party who was elected as the Karnataka Hassan Member of Parliament in 2019. He is the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the son of JD(S) politician HD. Rivera.

In 2015, he joined the JD(S) membership and began his foray into politics. The party refused to let him run in the 2018 Karnataka state assembly elections. He was appointed as JD(S) State Secretary on 27 November 2019. Prajwal won the Karnataka Hassan seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, defeating BJP candidate A. Manju by 1,41,224 votes.
The seat has been a JD(S) stronghold for many years and HD Deve Gowda has been elected five times. For Prajwal’s first foray into electoral politics, Gundam abandoned the family stronghold and took on Thumkur. In the election, the JD(S) contested 6 of the 28 seats in the Lok Sabha, with Prajwal the sole winner. Saddened by his grandfather’s defeat in Thumkur, Prajwal offered to resign Hassan’s parliamentary seat to get his grandfather re-elected. he declared,
Since my grandfather was the founder and builder of JD(S), I would like to resign and have him re-elected from Hassan seat through a by-election. “
However, Gouda and the party advised him not to offer his resignation.
In 2023, Karnataka HC disqualified Prajwal as MP for not disclosing all his assets and wrongly disclosing his assets. The court also dismissed A. Manju’s plea to declare him as the return candidate in place of Prajwal, saying Manju was also indulged in corrupt practices which were corroborated by the material furnished by Prajawal in his counter petition.

Accuses JD(S) of encouraging suitcase politics
In 2017, while addressing a party-worker meeting in Hunsur (Mysuru district), Prajwal accused the JD(S) of a “suitcase culture”, claiming that priority was given to the rich while distributing invoices. Not grassroots workers. Loyal workers were asked to sit in the back, while those who came with suitcases (i.e. money) sat in the front, he said. At the time, Prajwal was working in Hunsur and was planning to contest the constituency in the 2018 parliamentary elections. Embarrassed, HD Deve Gowda played down Prajwal’s remarks, saying some of his grandson’s followers had misled the young descendant. However, Prajwal received a stern warning from the party.
Booked to seek votes in name of species
In 2019, officials of the Hassan Assembly constituency flying squad of Khali Mysore police filed an FIR against Prajwal, accusing him of seeking votes in the name of caste. The action was taken on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis after Prajwal delivered a speech in Doddakadanuru village in Karnataka on April 7, 2019. JD (S) candidates try to attract voters by mentioning Veerashaivas (or Lingayatism). Sources revealed that Prajwal, in his speech at Alagata village in Kadur Taruk, highly praised the contribution of leaders of the Velahiva community in Hassan Belur Taruk.
Misappropriation of assets
On September 1, 2023, the Karnataka High Court disqualified Prajwal Revanna from serving as Hassan MP due to irregularities in his affidavit for the 2019 general elections. The decision was taken by a bench of Justice K Natarajan. The Supreme Council also directed the Election Commission of India to take action against Revanna under the Rules for the Implementation of Election Procedure. In September 2019, BJP politician A Manju and Congress leader G Devarajegowda, who had unsuccessfully contested from the Hassan seat in 2019, submitted a petition to Prajwal, accusing him of submitting false documents during the nomination process for the 2019 elections. In January 2020, the Karnataka High Court dismissed the petition filed by Manju and Devarajegowda citing technical and other compliance procedural reasons. The trial then began after the Supreme Court ordered a review of the December 2021 petition. Prajwal provided false information and false market values of some properties declared in his asset list and concealed the actual balance of his bank and declared only rupee accounts. The balance was Rs 5.78 lakh and the actual balance was Rs 5.78 lakh. As of the date of submission of nominations, the total number was 49.09 million. Additionally, he did not disclose the status of his pending court petition challenging the FIR he registered. He suppressed Rs. A loan of Rs 50 lakh was deposited into his bank account, which was taken from Rajputra MP Kuppendra Reddy. The court also said that against Rs. The HC pointed out that HD Revanna and his other son Suraj Revanna also helped Prajwal win the election and asked them to show why they should not be declared to have indulged in corrupt practices during the election process.
