Pramod Sawant was an Indian politician, best known for serving as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa. He made headlines in March 2019 when he succeeded Manohar Parrikar as Chief Minister of Goa; after Parrikar’s death on March 17, 2019.

Pramod Pandurang Sawant was born on April 24, 1973 in an ordinary family in Bicholim, a city in northern Goa (50 years old in 2023). His hometown is Sanquelim, a small town in northern Goa. Apart from being a politician, Mr. Sawant is also a professional practitioner of Ayurveda.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery in 1996 from Ganga Educational Society Ayurveda Medical College, Kolhapur. Mr. Sawant also received his Masters in Social Work from Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune in 2010. At a young age, Pramod Sawant joined the RSS and became an active member of the Sangh Pracharak. Soon, he rose to higher positions in the RSS.
Mr Sawant is close to Manohar Parrikar. In fact, he is considered a protégé of Manohar Parrikar. Like Parrikar, Sawant also maintains a man-next-door image and speaks the language of the common man.

Pramod Sawant belongs to the Maratha Kshatriya community. His father’s name is Pandurang and mother’s name is Padmini Sawant. Pramod Sawant’s husband Sulakshana is a chemistry teacher at Shri Shantadurga High School in Bicholim.
Surakshana Sawant is also a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has been serving as the president of the Goa unit of the Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The couple has a daughter named Pativi.

After becoming active in the RSS, Pramod Sawant was inducted into active politics by Manohar Parrikar.
Soon after joining the BJP, he became its state president. In March 2012, Mr. Sawant was elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly from Sanquilim constituency.
In March 2017, he was re-elected as a member of the 7th Legislative Assembly of Goa. From 2017 to March 2019, he served as the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He was handpicked by Parrikar for the post of Speaker in 2017.
Mr. Sawant was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Goa at 2:00 am on March 19, 2019, holding the highest political office in Goa despite never having served as a state cabinet minister. After taking office as Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Sawant wrote on his Facebook account:
I assume the post of Chief Minister with great humility and gratitude to my idol and mentor Manohar Bhai…I look forward to your blessings and support in carrying forward the glorious legacy of commitment to good governance. “
On March 28, 2022, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Goa for the second time.
