Pranay Rane was born on Monday, 16 September 2002 in Kankarvali, Maharashtra (age 21; as of 2023). He studied at SM High School, Kankavali. He started playing kabaddi in school and was a member of a kabaddi group known as the ‘Youngster Mandal’. After graduation, he moved to Mumbai to study engineering and attended Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Later, due to his love for Kabaddi, he transferred to MD College of Arts, Science and Commerce. During his college days, he played kabaddi at the college and university levels.

After college, he started working in Bank of Baroda. While under contract with Bank of Baroda, he started playing kabaddi with local kabaddi team BPT. He made his debut in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 in 2022 with U Mumba, a professional kabaddi team based in Mumbai, Maharashtra that competes in the Pro Kabaddi League.
He played in 11 games and scored 26 points in the games he played. He shot 53% on raids and 25% on steals.
