Prashasti Singh is a renowned Indian stand-up comedian, writer, actor and improviser. Her style of comedy is anecdotal; it is inspired by the comedian’s own experiences which may be true or partially true but embellished. Prashasti came into the limelight when she made her digital debut in the Amazon Prime series Comicstaan (2018).

Prashasti Singh was born in 1987 (33 years old in 2020) and is from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. She attended Delhi Public School RK Puram in New Delhi. She then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi (2005-2009). She later went on to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2012-2014).

Prashasti started her career as a business technology analyst at Deloitte Consulting in 2009. After working at Deloitte Consulting for a year and a half, she started working at Dell as a senior analyst in 2012. In the second half of 2013, she joined Procter & Gamble as a marketing intern. In June 2014, she started working at Star TV as an assistant marketing manager and by July 2016, she became the category director of Star TV.
As a comedian
Before venturing into stand-up comedy, she worked as a category head at Star TV Network for four years. While at Star TV, Prashasti took an improvisation course to “break the monotony of corporate life” where she met some friends who encouraged her to try public performance. In 2018, she made her debut on the Indian stand-up comedy competition television series Comicstaan. Although she did not win the competition, she gained a loyal following.
After that, Prashasti was involved in the marketing campaign for Amazon Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in 2018. Amazon hired several female stand-up comedians to do short stand-up sets in Mrs. Maisel costumes to promote the upcoming series.
In 2019, she starred in the MX original series Kiski Sarkar, in which various comedians gave humorous takes on political news.
In 2020, Prashasti starred in Netflix’s all-female stand-up comedy special Ladies Up.

On December 31, 2019, Prashasti uploaded an old picture with Bollywood star Sidharth Malhotra on her Instagram account. In the caption of the picture, she called Sidharth a waiter as he was wearing a formal black tuxedo with a bow tie, which is the usual dress code for waiters. Sidharth’s fans and her own fans slammed her, saying that she was not only disrespectful to Sidharth but also to waiters.

- Prashasti excelled in school and college. She doted on her father from a young age and she credits him with her sense of humor. In an interview, she revealed that initially, her mother did not support her decision to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, but Prashasti convinced her.
- With a degree in engineering and an MBA, Prashasti had to give up Hindi and master communication skills in English, but her comfort zone has always been Hindi. When comedians like Abhishek Upmanyu and Zakir Khan performed stand-up comedy in Hindi, it paved a way for Prashasti to enter the world of comedy. In an interview, she said,
My mother tongue is Hindi. So when these boys broke the barrier of talking in Hindi and expressed their thoughts in the language they prefer, it was a big leap for me to think that thoughts are more important than words.”
- Prashasti is not only a well-known comedian in the comedy circle, but also a great storyteller. In 2019, Prashasti wowed the audience after her performance at Spoken Fest 2019. She talked about her parents, describing them as “superheroes and sidekicks.” The touching, vulnerable and funny story of how Prashasti’s mother became a superhero after her father’s death moved the audience.
