Pratap Chandra Sarangi was an Indian politician. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is currently the Minister of State for Livestock, Dairying, Fisheries and Small and Medium Enterprises.

Sarangi was born on January 4, 1955 in Gopinathpur village, Nilagiri, Balasore, Odisha (age 64; as of 2019). His zodiac sign is Capricorn. In 1971, he completed his education from KC High School in Nilgiri, Odisha. He graduated in 1975 from Fakir Mohan College, Balasore, Odisha. From his college days, he wanted to become a monk in Ramakrishna Mathematics. He visited Belur Math in Howrah, West Bengal, and became a monk. The monks of Belur Math refused his request and told him that he should not become a monk; since his mother was a widow and still alive, he should take care of her. However, Sarangi was keen to serve the people and hence he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
He is very popular in his area because everyone in the village knows that he sincerely wants to help people and will do so in any way possible. He did a lot for the welfare of the people in the village. He founded Ekal Vidyalayas (one-teacher village schools) in interior Odisha to help children who could not afford to go to school. He later joined the Bajrang Dal and eventually became its president in 1999.

political career
Pratap Chandra Sarangi was elected to the Odisha Assembly from Nilagiri constituency in 2004 and became active in politics since then. He has been engaged in social work for more than ten years and is very popular locally. He was well known and used to look after the people of his constituency. People in his constituency often said that Sarangi was very caring; when they were sick, he would visit them, listen to their problems and solve their problems.
In the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections, he again contested from Nilagiri constituency and won. He has done a lot in his constituency to help the people and uplift them. He founded many schools in his constituency to help children receive basic education and go on to high school and college for higher education. In 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced him as its candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Balasore constituency in Odisha. Sarangi contested the election but lost to the BJD candidate by a margin of 1.42 lakh votes. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP again announced his name from Balasore constituency. He won by 12,000 votes and was elected to Parliament. On May 31, 2019, he was sworn in as the Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and Small and Medium Enterprises in the Narendra Modi government by President Ram Nath Kovind.

- Sarangi was accused of having knowledge of the killings that Bajrang Dal y was about to carry out. Reaoze activists in Monoharpur village, Orissa, 1999. Australian Christian missionary Graham Staines was reportedly burned alive while he and his two sons slept in their station wagon. Bajrang Dal member Dara Singh is the main accused in the entire incident. The Orissa High Court sentenced him to death for the crime and 11 other members, including Sarangi, were released due to lack of evidence.
- Sarangi was arrested in 2002 for his role in an attack on the Odisha Assembly by many right-wing groups. He was charged with assault, rioting, arson and damaging government property.
