Praveen Chisravel

Praveen Chithravel is an Indian athlete who competes in the triple jump category. Praveen is the national triple jump record holder. He won bronze medals at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and the 2022 Asian Games.

Praveen Chithravel was born on Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Tamil Nadu, India (age 22; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Gemini. Praveen attended Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Boys), Chennai, which is a Center of Excellence (CoE). CoE is an initiative of the Tamil Nadu government to support talented sportspersons. Praveen completed his high school education from Balakrishna Matric High School, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. After completing his studies, Praveen enrolled in a college in Mangalore, Karnataka, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree. Praveen was trained by coach Indira Suresh in Nagercoil and traveled to Mangalore just to appear for the exam.

Praveen Chithravel met his mentor Indira Suresh at the Center of Excellence (CoE) for boys in Chennai. Indira Suresh in association with Sports Development Authority of India. Praveen met Indira when she was in seventh grade and started training under her guidance from then on. Coach Indira said in an interview,

I discovered Praveen and took him under me when he was in seventh grade at CoE in Chennai. When I was transferred to a college in Nagecoil, he also came to me and said he would only train under my guidance. So, I let him enter my university. ”

Praveen has been practicing hard since he was in CoE. The Chairman of the CoE is Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Praveen then started training at Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) in Vijayanagara, Karnataka, under the guidance of Antony Yaich.

Praveen trains at IIS throughout the year and returns home to Tiruvallur only once a year. IIS also provides financial assistance to Praveen. Praveen is the second Indian to win a medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. He achieved this goal at the age of 17. Pravin said in an interview,

The moment I won the bronze medal in Buenos Aires 2018, my whole life changed forever. I got much-needed sponsorship and two months later, I was selected for the Asian Senior Championships. “

Praveen participated in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and finished fourth. In an interview, Praveen spoke about how Neeraj Chopra inspired him not to win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games but to focus on the future,

Neeraj Chopra messaged me on Instagram after I narrowly missed out on a Commonwealth Games medal. He is a great role model and an inspiration to many. He (Chopra) first congratulated me for my perseverance. He then asked me not to lose heart and encouraged me saying that I had the potential to do well in the 2023 Asian Games and World Championships. ”

Praveen Chithravel finished sixth in the men’s triple jump at the 2023 Monaco Diamond League. This was the first Diamond League and Praveen set a personal best of 16.59m. He was forced to rest for nearly a month due to a hamstring injury and therefore failed to break the 17m standard set in four outdoor games in 2023. The injury also caused him to withdraw from the 2023 Italian Diamond League in Florence. Pravin set a Cuban national record with a high jump of 17.37 m, which qualified him for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Hungary; however, only Neeraj Chopra has qualified at the World Championships Won a medal (gold medal).

Praveen qualified for the 2022 Asian Games with a clearance of 1717m at the 2023 Indian Jumping Open in Bellary, Karnataka. Pravin won the bronze medal in the 2022 Asian Games with a long jump of 16.68 meters. Praveen made a jump in the third round that would have earned him a silver medal, but the jump was declared a foul.
