Prince Harry caused ‘disquiet’ by ‘taking it upon himself’ to fly over with no invitation at short notice, expert says

PRINCE Harry caused “an uproar” by “taking it upon himself” to fly to London without any invitation at such short notice, an expert has said.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, raced across the Atlantic on Tuesday following King Charles’ shock cancer diagnosis – but only for a brief 30-minute meeting.

Friends and family of the king, 75, say his spirits remain good as he fights his latest battle with health.

Charles is currently taking time off from his royal duties in the public eye, after an unspecified cancer was discovered during tests when he was being treated for an enlarged prostate.

Charles has now returned to Sandringham, Norfolk, where he will rest between treatments as an outpatient.

During his overnight stay in the capital, with Camilla, 76, by his side, Prince Harry flew in to visit him after 16 months without face-to-face contact.

But royal expert Robert Jobson said Charles was “touched” by the gesture but that Harry was “not invited” to travel 5,500 miles.

He told MailOnline: “I’m told the reality is more complex and worrying – that Harry has caused a stir by ‘taking it upon himself’ to fly over uninvited and at such short notice.

“To put it bluntly, the king was unhappy with what amounted to a fait accompli served up by an emotional but well-intentioned son.

“Charles just needs some peace and quiet at the moment and had planned to fly to the tranquility of Norfolk with his wife, the Queen, much earlier on Tuesday.

“Yet, thanks to Harry’s intervention, their majesties were left running at Clarence House, their main home in London, while they waited for the wayward younger son to appear.”

Harry did not spend the night at the royal estate and is believed to have stayed in a hotel instead.

Last year, Charles ordered Harry and Meghan out of Frogmore Cottage, their home in Windsor.

The Sussexes now reportedly need an “official invitation” to stay with the royal family on a “protected estate”.

Before Harry returned to wife Meghan and children Archie and Lilibet, he did not meet Prince William.

Sources previously said the Prince of Wales had “no plans” to see his brother during his short stay in the UK.

It comes after Wills returned to public engagements on Wednesday.

The prince publicly acknowledged his father’s health shock at a fundraising event in London.

He joked about “getting away from it all” during a speech at a fundraiser for the London Air Ambulance Charity.

Wills was also heard thanking the British people for their good wishes ahead of the event.

The Duke flew 5,000 miles from the US to London after his father’s cancer diagnosis.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, landed at Heathrow at lunchtime after a ten and a half hour overnight flight.

He was flown to London as Charles, 75, delayed a helicopter flight to Sandringham so they could hold their first meeting in 16 months.

The king was said to be “very well” and “completely normal”.

A friend who saw His Majesty said, “If you didn’t know something was wrong with him, you wouldn’t know.”

Another palace source said the king was “in his usual good form” and “just a little frustrated that his condition has affected not only his plans but others”.

Wills told guests at London’s Raffles Hotel: “Thank you for being here. And thank you to all those whose hard work has made this evening possible.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind messages of support for Catherine and my father, especially in the last few days. It means a lot to us all.

Then, in a light-hearted joke amid the stressful past three weeks, he added: “It’s fair to say that the past few weeks have been quite ‘medically’ oriented.

“So I thought I’d come to the air ambulance function to get away from it all.”
