Prince William Postpones Official Duties to Support Family amid Kate Middleton’s Hospitalization

Prince William will be by his wife Kate Middleton’s side as she recovers from abdominal surgery.

On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales, 42, had undergone “planned abdominal surgery” the previous day. PEOPLE understands the procedure was not cancerous and her husband changed his schedule to support her.

“The operation was successful, and it is expected that he will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue his recovery,” the statement said. “Based on current medical advice, he is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

William is expected to postpone some commitments to be with Kate and support their family. The Prince and Princess of Wales are parents to Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5). We have learned that two upcoming planned international trips have been postponed.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normalcy as possible for her children; and her desire to keep her personal medical information private,” the statement continued. “Kensington Palace will therefore only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’s progress when there is significant new information to share.”

“The Princess of Wales would like to apologize to anyone concerned about the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to returning to as many engagements as possible, as soon as possible,” they added.
