Together At Christmas’ annual star-studded celebration kicked off tonight as the most important service yet, following Kate’s cancer diagnosis.
The mood was good as the princess said she hired Prince Louis, six, to save something of a surprise from his sister Charlotte, nine.
Kate revealed how Princess Charlotte didn’t know about one of the most special acts of the night.
Apparently talking about the Royal Ballet soloists who performed during the service, the princess opened up about how much the young royal loves ballet.
Speaking to Paloma Faith, Kate said she asked Louis: “Can you keep it a secret, otherwise it won’t be a surprise for Charlotte, who loves her ballet.”
Kate found that the young prince was up to his demanding task.
The princess added, “He’s been keeping the secret for what, almost two weeks.”
Paloma Faith said: “Very challenging.”
Princess Kate replied: “For a six-year-old.”
Despite the prince’s good work, Kate revealed how he almost snapped at the last minute.

Kate added: “And then this morning he said ‘Mum please can I tell her – I’m shooting’.
“I went and he really wanted to tell her. I think – I hope – he kept her.”
The young princess later appeared delighted at the Royal Ballet’s performance, suggesting that Louis had kept his promise to his mother.
The Princess of Wales also met singers Gregory Porter and Olivia Dean on the festive night.
She spent the service with her children as they held candles and sang Christmas carols.
The royal family was joined by several members of their family, including Princess Beatrice and Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton.
Stars from around the world of sports and television also attended the special event.
Six-time Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy, who has terminal cancer, was in attendance.
Heartfelt notes from Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis
Prince William beamed as he arrived with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for the ‘Together At Christmas’ service.
The children looked delighted to appear at their mother Princess Kate’s Christmas service at Westminster Abbey tonight.
They were spotted carrying heartwarming handwritten messages to be hung on the Kindness Tree.
The trio will be joined by other children outside to take part in a festive activity designed to express gratitude and love.
Princess Charlotte’s sweet message read: “Thank you grandma and grandpa for playing with me.”
The Sun revealed last month that children who survived the tragedy in Southport in July will also attend.
Kate also wrote in a letter to guests that Christmas “encourages us to turn to love, not fear.
The love we show ourselves and the love we show others.”
