Cailee Spaeny opens up about what it was like to watch Priscilla with Priscilla Presley herself.
In a clip from an interview with The Hollywood Reporter shared on Instagram, Spaeny, 25, said she felt a wide range of emotions as she sat with Presley, 78, at the world premiere of Sofia Coppola’s new film at the Venice Film Festival on Monday.
“I think what moved me the most was also terrifying [was] to watch a movie with Priscilla Presley next to me,” said Spaeny in the video. The actress portrays Priscilla in the film, while Euphoria star Jacob Elordi plays Elvis Presley himself. (The A24 film was awarded a temporary SAG-AFTRA contract in the midst of the strike since it was shot in Canada with a non-AMPTP studio.)
“But in the end, I think she was very moved,” Spaeny said of Priscilla’s reaction to the film. “She looked at me and said, ‘That was a great performance,’ and that was the first time I’d ever heard that, which was — it was absolutely surreal.”

Priscilla herself seems to have become emotional following the film’s world premiere, with a video that The Hollywood ReporterAlex Ritman shared Twitternow known as X, showing her wiping tears from her eyes as the crowd applauds.

The film received a standing ovation from the audience in Venice that lasted a total of seven minutes Diversity. A video shared on Twitter shows Coppola hugging Priscilla as Spaeny and Elordi, 26, look on.
At a press conference for the film on Monday, Spaeny — otherwise known for his roles in 2018. Based on gender and HBO’s 2021 miniseries Mare of Easttown — she said that she felt that Priscilla was her main support during the filming of the film.

“It was very scary, but I was very lucky to have some time with Priscilla, and she was generous with her time,” she said, when asked about how she and Elordi prepared to play the big celebrities in Elvis and Priscilla . “She was very kind to me and very supportive and I think it would have been a lot harder if I hadn’t had that. That was my main source and obviously the book, but I was very lucky that the person I played was also very supportive.”

During that press conference, Priscilla also seemed emotional as she told reporters that “it’s very hard to sit and watch a movie about you and your life and your love.”
“I think Sofia did an amazing job, she did her homework,” she added. “We spoke a few times and I really gave everything I could for her.”
Priscilla it’s in theaters on October 27.
