Earlier, in March 2023, Prithviraj Tondaiman won a bronze medal at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Doha, Qatar, his first individual World Cup medal. In July 2023, he won the bronze medal for the second time in the men’s skeet event at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy, becoming the only Indian to win this medal. In an interview, Prithviraj spoke about the positive influence his skeet coach Russell Mack left on him, explaining that working with Russell gave him immense confidence towards the medals. He said,
We’ve worked with many coaches over the years and no one told me “you can do it.” Russell and I have done this together and it gives me confidence because it comes from a two-time Olympic champion. ”
In October 2023, Prithviraj Tondaiman represented India in the 19th Asian Games (2022) in Hangzhou, China. He won the shooting gold medal in the men’s clay pigeon event along with teammates Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Kynan Chenai.
At the 2022 Asian Games, India won gold medals, setting an Asian Games record of 361, Kuwait won the silver medal with 359 points, and China won the bronze medal with 354 points. In the skeet team event held at the shotgun shooting range, where the cumulative scores of shooters from various countries in the qualifying rounds were considered for awarding medals, Prithviraj ranked 11th with a score of 119/125. However, Prithviraj failed to qualify for the individual finals.
