One of the five top industry experts who will seek to hasten the development and implementation of cutting-edge technology in significant UK growth industries is British-Indian.
Priya Lakhani OBE has been named to the AI Council to support efforts to harness emerging digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in five high-potential sectors and build the UK’s equivalent of Silicon Valley for the twenty-first century.
Digital technology, green industries, biological sciences, advanced manufacturing, and the creative industries are among the five sectors.
Lakhani and other specialists will collaborate with Patrick Vallance, the UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser and National Technology Adviser, to provide advice on new regulations that make the most of the UK’s regulatory latitude to foster innovation.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt stated in a statement that Vallance and his “team will be critical as we harness every tool at our disposal to create the industries and jobs of the future, which will deliver long-lasting benefits for local communities across the UK.”
Lakhani is the founder and CEO of CENTURY Tech, a company that creates learning solutions powered by artificial intelligence for schools, colleges, institutions, and businesses throughout the globe.
She abandoned her legal job in 2008 to start a new cooking sauce company, which through its philanthropic foundation supported multiple schools and offered millions of meals and immunisations to the poor in India and Africa.
In 2009, the Chancellor named her Business Entrepreneur of the Year, and in 2014, she was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
In 2019, she was named to the AI Council after serving as a business advisor to the coalition government of the UK. Lakhani helped co-found the Institute for Ethical AI in Education in 2018, which enables students to take advantage of AI in education in an ethical manner.
