After Jyotipriya Mallick was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for his alleged involvement in the ration scam, it was revealed that Priyadarshini has been appointed as the director of three fictitious companies. The companies were set up by Jyotipriya to generate funds through the sale of rations provided to vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to ED, the siphoned off money was later deposited into the bank accounts of Priyadarshini and her mother Manidipa. Priyadarshini reportedly deposited Rs. 3.37 billion after demonetization by the Indian government. However, when ED authorities asked about the issue, Priyadarshini claimed that the money she deposited in 2016 was the money she earned from school fees. An ED official spoke about this in an interview and stated:
She (Priyardashini) is a school teacher and claims that all this money was earned through tuition fees. During that financial year, her annual salary was Rs 2.48 lakh. “
The ED subsequently froze the Malik family’s bank accounts. In her defence, Priyadarshni denied any involvement in the case and claimed her family was deliberately targeted. She discussed this issue in an interview and said:
It is now clear that ED arrests someone first and then starts investigation. However, this matter is under investigation and I cannot make any comment at this time. My father will be able to tell if there is any conspiracy behind his arrest. “
