Priyank Kharge is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was elected as MLA from Chittapur Assembly constituency for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2018. He is the son of Indian politician Mallikarjun Kharge.

Priyank M Kharge was born on Wednesday, November 22, 1978 in Bangalore, Karnataka (44 years; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He studied PUC from MES College, Malleswaram, Bangalore (1996-1998). Priyank Kharge’s father Mallikarjun Kharge is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress. He became a member of the Bundestag on February 16, 2021. Previously, he served as Railway Minister, Labor and Employment Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in the central government. His mother Radhabai Kharge was a housewife. Priyank has two brothers, Rahul Kharge and Milind Kharge, and two sisters, Priyadarshini Kharge and Jayashree Kharge. His son Rahul Kharge is a civil servant and later started working as a consultant for IT companies; his wife Arundhati Kharge is an electrical engineer. His daughter Priyadarshini Kharge is a doctor.

Political career
In 1999, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC). He served as Secretary of Karnataka Youth Congress from 2005 to 2007, Secretary General of Karnataka Youth Congress from 2007 to 2011, and Vice Chairman of Karnataka Youth Congress from 2011 to 2014. Later, he was appointed to the Karnataka Congress Speakers Committee (KPCC).
2009 Karnataka Assembly by-elections
Priyank Kharge contested from the Chittapur Assembly seat in the 2009 Karnataka constituency elections but lost. BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak won the seat defeating Kharge by a margin of 1,606 votes.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Elections 2013
In 2013, he contested and won the Chittapur Assembly seat, defeating the BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 31,191 votes. In 2016, he became the youngest minister to be sworn in to Siddaramaiah’s cabinet. From July 2016 to April 2018, he served as the state’s minister of state for tourism, information technology and biotechnology.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Elections 2018
In 2018, he contested and won the Chittapur Assembly seat, defeating the BJP candidate Valmiki Nayak by a margin of 4,393 votes. He served as Social Welfare Minister in the coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy from June 8, 2018 to July 23, 2019.

Category G venue allocation
In 2011, Hager came to public attention when he announced that he would hand over 4,000 square meters of land. The ft plot in the HSR layout was allotted to Congress leader N. Dharam Singh by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) when he was chief minister. He made the announcement after news broke in the media about the allocation of G-category sites to politicians and their relatives. After acquiring the plot at a lump sum price of Rs. Haq built a commercial building on it for Rs 8.57 lakh. On October 28, 2011, he wrote to the BDA seeking cancellation of the allotment, saying he “no longer needed” the plot. The BDA accepted his request and canceled the allotment on December 5, 2011. However, when media attention shifted to other issues, Kharge asked the BDA to reallocate the plot. The BDA approved his request. On January 23, 2012, Kharge contacted the BDA again and requested the exchange of 4,000 square meters of its land. sq. ft. lot with an area of 2,400 sq. ft. The conspiracy belongs to his party colleague Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil (MLA from Sedam). His request was approved by BDA Commissioner Bharath Lal Meena. When asked why the media wanted to trade plots with Patil, Haq said “it was a mutual trade”. He also said in an interview with the media,
When the controversy broke out, we wanted no part of it and returned the site. Our legal advisor then informed us that the issue of Class G allocation was before the courts. We’re told there’s no need to abandon the plot at this stage. “
lewd remarks about women
Speaking at a press conference in 2022, Haq said men “have to pay bribes to get government jobs in Karnataka, while ‘young women have to sleep with someone'”. The remarks sparked controversy and drew heavy criticism from the Karnataka state BJP, which demanded an apology. The Bharatiya Janata Party Karnataka tweeted:
Thousands of women are talented, well-educated, work hard, pass multiple exams and find jobs. Priyanka Kharge, didn’t your words insult many women? Apologize quickly. “
Sanatana Dharma Remarks Line
In September 2023, Priyank Kharge got into controversy when he expressed support for Udhayanidhi Stalin. Stalin issued a statement at a press conference on September 2, 2023, calling “Sanatana Dharma” a problem and recommending its “eradicated”. In the same month, Priyank Kharge and Udhayanidhi Stalin were booked on charges of hurting religious sentiments; however, Kharge later addressed the issue in an interview and clarified Said he did not intend to offend any religious sentiments. He also said he is not afraid of facing consequences for expressing his views.

- In 2011, Priyank Kharge’s sister Priyadarshini Kharge hit the headlines for purchasing a 3,280 sq ft land on January 15, 2002, allegedly in violation of the society’s bylaws. In 2002, Mallikarjun Kharge served as Home Minister in the Congress government led by SM Krishna. She acquired the plot in Yelahanka (Allalasandra) judicial layout for Rs 1,96,837, while its market value runs into crores. In view of the allegations, she returned the land in question to the Karnataka Judiciary Employees’ Housing Construction Cooperative Society (KSJDEHBCS) in 2011. Priyadarshini’s use of the land would be in direct violation of Section 10 of the Model Goodbye. HBCS Laws, Relating to Member Rights. Section 10(B) states: “In the case of an employee housing building society, he/she is an employee of the organization to which the society belongs and has served in the State of Karnataka continuously or intermittently for at least five years.” Priyadarshini is not eligible to be Member because her profession was that of a doctor and the land was reserved for judicial employees.
