Queen Camilla’s Sister Annabel Elliot Has Been Her ‘Rock’ During Her Difficult 2024: Report

Queen Camilla has had a tough year, between her husband King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, her own health issues — including a battle with pneumonia — and the loss of her dog Beth.

Among her most ardent supporters is her sister Annabel Elliot, who Sun was the queen’s “stone” when she needed it the most.

Elliot – who is 18 months younger than his sister – is one of Queen Camilla’s “attendants”, which is a more modern term for “attendant”. The sisters’ close bond was shown in behind-the-scenes footage of King Charles’ coronation in a BBC documentary Charles III: Year of Coronationwhere in one scene Elliot, who was one of Camilla’s coronation attendants, became emotional as she watched her older sister go to Westminster Abbey to be crowned queen.

“When I remembered being 2 years old and watching Queen’s [Elizabeth] the coronation on a little black and white TV, and there goes this golden carriage with my sister in it,” she said.

“I can’t explain the feeling, because it’s so surreal. This can’t happen. It was the right moment,” added Elliot.

About the coronation of the king and queen on May 6, 2023, “Walking into the abbey, I think I had that nervousness the whole time,” Elliot said. “She is a little smaller than me. I’m like, ‘Is she going to be okay?’ ”

As children, the two sisters did everything together, “from going to the same schools to attending the same Pony Club events,” Sun reported. Growing up, the sisters attended the same parties and married within a year of each other, having children at the same time.

After Camilla’s marriage to her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, ended in 1994, the sisters traveled to Venice, Italy, where they enjoyed painting and other bonding activities. Sun reported that both sisters shared an artistic streak and that Elliot had a successful career as an interior designer, with one of her main clients being Charles and Camilla themselves.

Prince William removes Queen Camilla’s sister from royal pay: all about her former job

Former Prince Charles brought Elliot on as chief designer of his properties after his wedding to Camilla in 2005. Elliot was paid through the Duchy of Cornwall, which Charles controlled until he became king in September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Elliot has reportedly been paid several hundred thousand dollars for his work over the years, including landscaping and updating properties across the Duchy’s luxury holiday lettings in Cornwall, Wales and the Isles of Scilly. When Prince William took over the Duchy of Cornwall — a 700-year-old royal family estate designed to provide an income for the heir to the throne — the Prince of Wales, 42, decided not to repay Elliot for her design services in 2023-2024.

“Sources have confirmed that Prince William will no longer employ Ms Elliot, although this has not reflected on her work,” The Telegraph reported. The sources added that Elliott’s work was considered complete and that the staff had learned enough from her.

Elliot was part of a pivotal moment in the relationship between the former Prince of Wales and the former Camilla Parker Bowles — after knowing each other for more than 25 years, at Elliot’s 50th birthday party at The Ritz in 1999. Charles and Camilla finally appeared together as a couple in to the public.

The sisters lost their mother, Rosalind Shand, in 1994, their father, Bruce Shand, in 2006, and their younger brother, Mark, in 2014. Elliot had just lost her husband, Simon, to whom she had been married for over 50 years, on the eve of Charles and Camilla’s coronation. “This meant that Annabel was making arrangements for her dear late husband’s funeral at the same time as she was preparing for the big occasion at the abbey,” according to Sun.

Elliot said of his sister: “She’s someone who is completely loyal,” adding that Camilla, 77, “isn’t someone who has big ups and downs.”
