Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Ace is to quit his RnB show – with viewers disappointed by the unexpected schedule change.

In his statement, he said: “After two decades, various daytime slots and more than 10,000 hours on air, I’ve decided it’s time to move on.

“I loved my time at 1Xtra and have so many proud moments to think back on.

“I’m very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had.”

His last show will be broadcast on Saturday, January 20.

Meanwhile, podcast host Chuckie will replace him a week later.

The Londoner said: “This is a very surreal and sensational moment for me.

“I am very grateful to be a part of the 1Xtra team and look forward to creating some high-quality musical moments with listeners.”

It comes after another broadcasting legend at the same station quit.

Jamz Supernova recently left the channel after 12 years.

The DJ (32), who will continue to host her BBC 6 Music show, will be succeeded by her longtime friend and former producer CassKidd.

Writing on X, Jamz said: “Tough but exciting decision! After 12 years I’m ready for a new chapter! Thanks @1Xtra it’s been great! And what a full circle moment to welcome @CassKidd!

“! Lots of love to every guest and listener! I won’t get too mad just a few more shows but x100000 Jamz xx”

In an official statement, the DJ went further and spoke about her pride in supporting black artists on the national network.

She said: “I’m not sure words can quantify how amazing the last 12 years have been at 1Xtra.

“From the beginning as an intern, working in production to presenting. 1Xtra was my university, master’s degree and doctorate, all in one.

“I started my show on Tuesday nights with the goal of changing the perception of black artists making alternative music and as we saw at the recent MOBO Awards, alternative black artists are now accepted.”
