Raftaar is an Indian rapper, singer, lyricist and dancer who composes mostly Hindi and Punjabi music.

Raftaar was born as Dilin Nair on Wednesday, November 16, 1988 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (age 34; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He attended six different schools because he was bullied by children at school. He studied at Mount Abu Public School, New Delhi, Sachdeva Public School, Rohini and Shiva Shiksha Sadan, Sonipat. He was interested in dance when he was a child and after completing his studies, he started taking classes at a dance academy in Delhi, which used to charge Rs 150 per child. He pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications from Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, New Delhi. He learned Hindi, Punjabi and Haryanvi in ​​hostels and could only perform at clubs and college functions.

He began his career in 2008 by recording songs with Lil Golu and Young Amli (now known as Ikka) and uploading the videos to social media. He gained some popularity after joining the Mafia Mundeer organization and started working with Honey Singh. In 2012, due to some differences, the band broke up and Raftaar entered the Punjabi music industry after being managed by music manager Ankit Khanna. He joined the Punjabi music band RDB. Later, he joined Three Records. The band RDB also split and he later joined Manjeet Ral (now known as Manj Musik).

In 2014, Rafta courted controversy after he wrote and composed three songs, “Fugly”, “Banjarey” and “Dhup Chik”, without receiving recognition from singer Honey Singh. Honey Singh said in an interview that he owns the copyright of the songs Fugly and Banjarey. Raftar disagreed with his statement and said:

These two songs were written and composed by me and Yo Yo. I don’t know why the other thing wasn’t credited to me. ”

Raftar’s stance against CAA

In 2019, Rafta spoke against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens at a concert. During the concert, he cursed and said that no one would go abroad. He later apologized for his abusive behavior on Twitter and said,

Before everyone starts joining in and arguing about who agrees with me or who disagrees with me. I would like to apologize for my abusive behavior on stage. That’s something I shouldn’t do. Gaali dena aur ladki ki izzat karne me farq hai. Galat tab bhi hai. Uske liye maafi. ”

In 2022, Raftaar released a video for the song Mantoiyat, after which BTS fans accused him of plagiarizing Kim Namjoon aka RM’s music video for Do You. Raftar addressed this in a tweet, saying:

I totally understand why BTS fans are upset, and you have the right to be upset too. In our industry, we are hired to do our jobs. I personally acknowledge the similarity of this video. I’m really sad about this, but please don’t take it personally or my music or its message. ”
