Profession
fashion designer
Rahul Mishra started his career as a fashion designer in 2006. In 2006, he launched his first collection at Lakme Fashion Week, which was made of off-white cotton with a gold border of Kerala. Initially, he developed reversible garments in 2009, combining Banarasi fabric made by traditional artisans with Kerala mundu fabric on one side.
Rahul has showcased his clothing collections at several prestigious fashion weeks around the world, including London, Dubai, Australia and Paris. He is famous for being the first Indian designer on the online rental boutique Rent the Runway. Rahul is known for combining traditional Indian fabrics with handmade craftsmanship into his creations. In 2014, he was announced as the winner of the International Woolmark Prize competition in Milan. Mishra’s award-winning collection “The Lotus Effect” highlights progressive graphic hand embroidery in Chanderi fabrics and merino wool yarns, with Zardozzi embroidery embedded on jackets, dresses and trousers. The graphic pattern evolved around hexagonal and lotus patterns and was conceptually determined by the monochromatic works of Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher.
After becoming a successful entrepreneur, Rahul started branching out in 2017 by launching a variety of wedding wear, including bridal lehengas and sarees.
