Rain in Kerala: In view of continuous rain in Kerala, schools will remain closed in several parts of the state today, October 4, 2023. According to recent updates, all educational institutions in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed today due to the heavy rain that has caused floods in the region.

The state has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the past few days and yellow alert has also been issued in several districts across the state. Continuous heavy rain led to widespread flooding in several regions of the state, resulting in the closure of schools and colleges yesterday, October 3, 2023.

Kerala school holidays on 3rd October

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the district administration declared a holiday for educational institutions in Kottayam, Vaikom and Changanacherry talukas. According to reports, 17 camps are sheltering nearly 246 flood-affected people in the area. A holiday was also declared for educational institutions in Alappuzha’s Cherthala and Chengannur taluks which also conducted relief camps.

The Indian Meteorological Service has forecast light rain at a few places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam. Present day Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for four districts, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha, indicating heavy rainfall.

Since last week, Kerala has been receiving rain resulting in waterlogging incidents and flooding in several low-lying areas. Citizens are advised to be cautious, and students and parents are directed to contact school authorities for the latest information on the reopening of schools.
