Rajathi Ammal is a 73-year-old widow born in 1945 in Tamil Nadu, India. She was interested in acting from an early age and began her career in the mid-1960s as part of a theater troupe run by poet Kannadasan.

She resides at 14-1 Main Road No. 1, CIT Colony, Mylapore, Chennai.

In 2009, she was embroiled in controversy while speaking to corporate lobbyist Niira Radia when she was supposed to discuss a Rs 100-crore land deal in Chennai that belonged to Tata-owned Voltas and was allegedly transferred in the name of industrialist Sammu Sangmugnathan is priced at Rs 25 crore. Thereafter, the CBI cross-examined the statements of Rajathi and Radia, CA Ratnam and Kanimozhi’s close aide S Saravanan and Sangmugnathan, but the CBI did not find any evidence to prove the alleged transfer of land.
