Rajkumari Kaul was born on September 13, 1925 in Ujjain, a holy city in Madhya Pradesh, India. Although her roots belong to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. She is a Brahmin by caste and belongs to the Kashmiri Pandit clan. She was called “Bibi” by her loved ones. She is a loyal supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party and is said to have had a secret relationship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee since her college days.
On May 3, 2014, at the age of 88, she passed away and rested in peace. She was admitted to AIIMS hospital on May 2, 2018, due to cardiac arrest, but she could not survive.

Rajkumari and Atal Ji are madly in love with each other. They had exchanged a love letter, but he could not find her letter in the book she left behind.
She wanted to marry Atalji but could not do so due to opposition from her family. Even though they belonged to the same caste, her family considered themselves superior, which was enough for her parents to disapprove of their marriage.
She was born into a famous dynastic family, her father was Govind Narain Haksar and her father was Manmohini Haksar. Padma Rani Haksa is her stepmother. Her father found a job in the Scindia Home Education Department of Madhya Pradesh. Chand Narain Haksar is her half-brother.
Rajkumari is like an ideal obedient daughter who chooses family over love. After the 1947 riots, her family took her to Delhi and she later married BN Kaul, a teacher by profession.
She has two daughters. Nandita Nanda and Namita Bhattacharya.
According to some sources, Namita Bhattacharya is believed to be the daughter of Rajkumari Kaul and Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Source: Indian Express).
It is said that Rajkumari Kaul and her husband Brij Mohan lived with Atal Bihari in the same house as extended family members for more than 50 years.

She lived in Old Delhi before moving to Madhya Pradesh with her family. She is a graduate. She met Atal Bihari Vajpayee during her college days at Maharani Laxmi Bai Government College of Excellence (formerly known as Victoria College), Gwalior.
