Ratna Singh belongs to the Thakur family. Her father, Raja Dinesh Singh, was a famous Indian politician. He is a member of the Congress Party and also served as India’s Foreign Minister. Her father served in the cabinets of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Her mother’s name is Rani Neelima Kumari. She has five sisters: Maharani Rewa Kumari, Rajkumari Ravija Kumari, Yuvrani Rajitha Devi, Rajkumari Renuka Devi and Abha Kumari.

Profession

Ratna Singh joined the Indian National Congress in 1991. In February 1996, she was appointed as the Secretary General of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC). In 1996, she was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. After being elected as a Member of Parliament, she was included in the Executive Committee of the Congress Party in Parliament.

In 1999, she was re-elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh. In 2004, she contested the general election again but lost to the BJP’s Akshay Pratap Singh. In 2009, Ratna Singh was re-elected as a member of the 15th Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh. In September 2009, she was elected to the Defense Committee and Finance Committee. She contested the 2014 general elections but lost to Harivansh Singh of the Apna Dal. She quit the Congress and joined the BJP in Lucknow on October 15, 2019, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
