Rajnath Singh was an Indian politician. He is from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has held many important political offices, including Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Union Home Minister of India. Currently, he is the Defense Minister of India in Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

Rajnath Singh was born on Tuesday, July 10, 1951, in Bhabhaura village, Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh (age 73; as of 2024). His zodiac sign is Cancer. He received his primary education from a local school in Babaura, Uttar Pradesh. He pursued his Master’s degree in Physics from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, where he received the first prize. After graduation, he started working as a physics lecturer at KB Post Graduate College, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Rajnath Singh has been a member of the RSS since he was 13 years old. He liked the ideology of the RSS and even worked for them as a lecturer. Rajnath Singh held many important positions in the RSS.

Rajnath Singh belongs to the Hindu Rajput family. His father Rambadan Singh was a farmer and his mother Gujarati Devi was a housewife. He is married to Savitri Singh. They have three children, two sons: Pankaj Singh (eldest; politician) and Neeraj Singh (younger), and a daughter Anamika Singh (youngest).

Rajnath Singh’s political career began in 1969. He became the organizational secretary of the Gorakhpur branch of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP; RSS student wing). In 1972, he was promoted as General Secretary of ABVP Mirzapur.
He entered politics in 1974 and was appointed general secretary of the Mirzapur Bharatiya Janata Party (the predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party). He was appointed district president of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh and district coordinator of the Jai Prakash Narayan movement. It was during this campaign that he was first imprisoned. and many others who opposed the state of emergency.
In 1977, he was elected to the UP Assembly. In 1983, he was appointed State Secretary of the United People’s Party. He was appointed as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJYM) and in 1988 he was promoted to the position of National President of the BJYM. He wrote the book Unemployment – Causes and Remedies in 1998. In the same year, he was elected as MLC to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and eventually served as Uttar Pradesh Education Minister in 1991 when the BJP first formed the government in the state. The Anti-Plagiarism Act enacted in 1992 while he was Education Minister was a turning point in his career as it brought him national attention and admiration.
In 1994, he was elected as a member of the House of Commons and chief whip of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 1997, he was appointed Chairman of the People’s Party. On November 22, 1999, Atal Bihari Vajpayee took office as the Prime Minister and appointed Rajnath Singh as the Union Ground Transport Minister; during this period, Atal Bihari’s dream project – —The National Highway Development Plan was launched. On October 28, 2000, Rajnath took office as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. In 2002, he was appointed as the national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The following year he became federal minister of agriculture and food processing. As general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he traveled across the country meeting workers from across India to strengthen the party. In 2004, he was appointed General Secretary of the State for the second time. On December 31, 2005, he was appointed national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party; he served until December 19, 2009.
In May 2014, he was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha constituency of Lucknow and was sworn in as the Union Home Minister of India in the Narendra Modi government on May 26, 2014.
On May 30, 2019, Rajnath Singh was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government by President Ram Nath Kovind. On May 31, 2019, he was appointed Federal Minister of Defense.
He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow constituency and won by a margin of 63,000 votes. On June 9, 2024, he was sworn in as Minister of Defense in the Modi 3.0 government.
