Ragini Bhalla

Rajni Bala (1987-2022) was an Indian public school teacher. She was shot dead in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on May 31, 2022.

Profession

After completing her education, Ragini was appointed as a government school teacher in J&K. In 2009, she and her husband were posted to two different schools in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. She has been working at the Government Higher Secondary School in Gopalpora since 2017. However, her area was not safe and Ragini and her husband repeatedly requested the authorities to move them to a safer area.

On May 31, 2022, Rajni went to school with her husband and daughter, who dropped her outside the school and left. Ragini walked towards the main entrance of the school and was shot in the head by the terrorists.

This is the seventh terrorist attack against Hindu civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in May 2022. It was Ragini’s last day at school as their transfer request had been accepted the night before the attack. The reporter interviewed her husband, who was very sad. He said,

If the government had moved her to a safer place earlier, she might still be alive now. I curse my fate. Just one day after she was transferred, she was killed by terrorists.
