Rakesh Master (1968-2023) was an Indian film choreographer, known primarily for working in the Telugu film industry.

Rakesh Master was born in 1968 in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh as S. Rama Rao (age 55; time of death). In several interviews, Rakesh has shared that when he was a child, he had a dream of becoming a dancer. He was inspired by the popular film Disco Dancer, which he watched and found fascinating when he was ten years old. Rakesh was born in Nellore, but his family moved to Tirupati when his father found work in a market there. While living in Tirupati, he started a dance school called Guru Dance School. He later moved to Madras (now Chennai) and became a member of the Union of Dance Masters. He began his career as an assistant to experienced choreographers, which allowed him to study and gain practical knowledge in the field of dance. He worked for several years under the guidance of Master Nookaraju in Hyderabad. During his career, he also received training from renowned choreographers Shekhar Master and Johnny Master. He has trained film actors like Venu, Manichandana, Prabhas and Pratyusha.

In 2011, he made his debut with the movie “Avva”. He has arranged songs in films such as Ammo Polisollu (1999), Chirunavtu (2000), Lahiri Lahiri Lahirilo (2002), Devdasu (2002) and Seethaiya (2003).
He choreographed some hits in films like Hum Kahan Ja Rahe Hain (1966), Shor (1972), Akka Thangi (2008), etc.
He is recognized for his choreography of the songs “Neshtama o Priya Nesthama” and “Kallaloki Kallu Petti” from the movie “Lahiri Lahiri Lahirilo”. The songs were well received by popular actors like Prabhas and Mahesh Babu. He showcased his choreographic skills in the song “Vendi theraku Maa Vandanalu” from the movie “Manasichanu” starring Ravi Teja and Mani Chandana.
He also gave impressive dance performances in several songs from the movie “Devadasu” such as “Bangaram Banagaram”, “Nijama Cheppanante”, “Nuvvantene Ishtam” and “Pulupante Nakishtam”.

Negative comments about Lord Krishna
In 2021, he was embroiled in controversy when he made remarks about Lord Krishna during an interview with his YouTube channel. The remarks offended Yadava community leaders, who lodged a complaint against him, his wife and the Banjara Hills police station’s YouTube channel. The complaint was filed under Sections 295A and 298 of the IPC. After the incident, Rakesh said some people entered his home without permission and threatened him. In response, he lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police, alleging that the men inquired about his interview, used abusive language and issued threats. A case was registered against them under Sections 448, 427, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
Deceiving various women in the name of marriage
In 2023, TMPS founder president Gare Venkatesh Madiga called for action against Rakesh, accusing him of harassing a woman who left him 22 years ago and making disrespectful comments to her speech. At a press conference in Jubilee Hills, he was joined by victims Chinta Kasturi, Lakshmi and YouTuber Charan Guruvani from Sanvi Media. Chinta Kasturi revealed that Rakesh had promised to marry her but abandoned her in 2000. She filed a complaint against him, saying Rakesh targeted her because she was a Dalit woman. Another woman, Lakshmi, who was separated from Laksh, also claimed harassment. YouTuber Charan Guruvani claimed that she was targeted by Rakesh for providing employment opportunities to these women. Venkatesh Madiga announced his intention to lodge a complaint against Rakesh with city police chief CV Anand. Although a case had been registered at the Banjara Hills police station earlier, Rakesh was accused of misconduct, leading to a demand to register a case of Scheduled and Scheduled Tribe atrocities against him and application of the Personal Data Act.

He died on June 18, 2023, a week after falling unwell in Hyderabad after returning from an outdoor shoot in Visakhapatnam. He was admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad where doctors determined that he was suffering from multi-organ failure. Rakesh was diabetic and was diagnosed with severe metabolic acidosis. Doctors also noted that he was dehydrated from heat stroke. In an official statement, the doctor added,
He was a chronic alcoholic and his diabetes was not under control. On admission, his blood pressure was 60/40, and his health deteriorated throughout the day. We put him on a ventilator, but he couldn’t last more than two hours and breathed his last around 5 p.m. “
Ganesh Master, one of the most successful dance masters of Tollywood, spoke about his sudden death in an interview and said;
Guru Rakesh is our guru. Many of his students now have good reputations and recognition for their work. Master Rakesh was kind-hearted and always encouraged his students. All of us, his students and choreographers will talk about what to do and how to support Rakesh Mast’s family. All of us in the industry love him and everyone does their best. “

- In many interviews, Rakesh has often criticized and expressed opinions on famous personalities such as Ram Gopal Varma, Sri Reddy, NTR, Balakrishna, Mohan Babu, Chiranjeevi and Manchu Lakshmi.
- He used to teach dance to young people, charging a nominal fee of Rs 5 per student. He was deeply impressed by Sekhar Master’s talent and dedication to dance. Rakesh was instrumental in supporting Sekhar in his career and helped him establish himself in the industry. However, their relationship eventually soured and Rakesh publicly criticized Sekar, accusing him of betrayal. Rakesh considered Sekar a family member and supported him financially and professionally to the point where it caused problems in his personal life, leading to his first wife leaving him. Suddenly, Sekhar’s behavior changed and he started ignoring Rakesh and hiding things from him. Sekar’s mother also accused Rakesh of trying to manipulate Sekar. In an interview, he talked about Sekal and said:
He bought an apartment and he didn’t invite me, he invited all my students and other people to his daughter’s birthday but he didn’t invite me. I begged him to come and see my father on his deathbed, but Sekar ignored me. I decided to isolate myself from everyone, including my son, daughter and wife. “
- In 2020, he was honored by the Global University for Human Peace and awarded a Doctorate in Services to demonstrate his contributions and achievements in his field.
