Ram Sampath is an Indian musician, music composer and music producer. He is the husband of Indian singer and music composer Sona Mohapatra.

He grew up in Chembur, Mumbai. He went to school at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School in Mumbai. Born into a family with a musical background, Sampath developed a keen interest in Carnatic music at a very young age. During his school years, he studied Carnatic music for eight years. After completing his schooling, Sampath joined RA Podar College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai to pursue a commerce course. Ram joined a rock band during college and played keyboard in the band. At the age of 16, Sampath started visiting music studios in search of opportunities to compose music. In 1994, he got the opportunity to compose music for the 1994 Miss India beauty pageant, Femina.

Ram Sampath met singer Sona Mohapatra in 2002, when she was working as a brand manager for consumer goods company Marico Limited. The two were introduced by film director Ram Madhvani and tied the knot on January 16, 2005.

Ram Sampath started his career by composing jingles for television commercials. He has composed music for brands like Airtel, Docomo, Thums Up, Pepsi and Times of India.

Sampat gained popularity for composing the music for the hit track “Bhaag DK Bose” from the film Belly of Delhi (2011). He recorded Indian versions of the songs “God’s Top Ten”, “Devil’s Party” and “Afterglow” with Australian rock band INXS in 2008. He has also performed in many stage shows.

In 2008, Sampat sued the producers of the film Krazzy 4 (2008) for plagiarizing his music. Later, the Bombay High Court ruled that two songs from the film, including the title track, were plagiarized. The songs were copied from the refrain of a Sony Ericsson ad composed by Sampat. The court ordered a stay on the release of the film, and the case was later settled out of court. The film’s producers paid Sampat Rs 20 lakh, and the film and the songs were released together.

- In an interview, Sampath shared that his first toy was an LP player. Talking about it, he said,
My parents tell me that from the age of two, I would load my own LPs and play them. I was always interested in album sleeves and the process of record making. There was one album where the band, producer and engineer were sitting at a big console on the back of the LP sleeve and that intrigued me. I started composing when I was eight. I had a two-in-one recorder that would record and I could write my own lyrics. By the age of 12, it was clear to me that I wanted to be a composer. ”
