Ramkumar Ramanathan is an Indian professional tennis player. He is the second Indian to reach the ATP (Professional Tennis Association) Tour singles final in 2018, after Somdev Devman in 2011. Ramkumar won the silver medal in men’s doubles at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

2014-2016
In 2014, Ramkumar qualified for the main draw of the Chennai Open and defeated the then Indian No. 1 Somdev Devvarman in the first round. In 2015, Ramkumar started participating in Futures and Challenger level tournaments. In April 2015, he reached the final round for the first time in the Mersin Cup doubles competition in Turkey with his partner Ricardo Gedin. The two lost in the final stages. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, everything stopped. Ramkumar said that initially he would spend time with his family and exercise at home. Talking about the pandemic in an interview, Ramkumar said,
Obviously, we won’t be able to play too many games in 2020. But all Indian tennis players came together and did one-hour online training for 150 days. We started with 7 players and by the end we had about 77. We also have to get more rest. Then Roland Garros (2020 French Open) started and I was able to start playing again. Traveling has been a little tricky, but I’m glad we’re back to business and doing what we love most. ”
2021
In 2021, Ramkumar entered the Wimbledon men’s singles qualifiers and won the first match, but narrowly defeated Mark Polmans in the five-set decider and missed the opportunity to qualify. He also made his Grand Slam main draw debut in the Mixed Doubles, partnering Ankita Raina, who made a last-minute appearance after withdrawing from the tournament. After winning the medal, Ramkumar said in an interview,
Oh, man, I mean, this is my first medal. We play for moments like this. We worked hard to get here. You can’t buy these moments. It happens when you least expect it.
