Rani Rana is an Indian female wrestler. She came into the limelight after winning the 55kg gold medal at the 2019 National Women’s Wrestling Championships, becoming the first female wrestler in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Rani Rana was born in 1996 (age 27; until 2023) in the village of Jahala in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. When she started wrestling with the boys in the village, she was criticized by the villagers because there were no girls in the village to wrestle; her parents left the village and started living in the city so that Rani Rana could pursue her passion. Later, she joined the Indian Indore Sports Bureau to learn mat wrestling moves.

From 2017 to 2020, she won a bronze medal at the Senior Wrestling Championships. In 2019, Rani won the gold medal in the 55kg category at the National Women’s Wrestling Championships in Shirdi, Maharashtra; she defeated Mansi from Uttar Pradesh.

In October 2019, she represented India at the Under-23 World Championships in Hungary, but lost to American Dominic Olivia Parrish.

In the same year, she participated in the Asian Championships held in Xi’an, China. In 2022, she won a silver medal at the Senior Federation Cup in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

When Lani went viral in 2016 for pinning a male wrestler for a minute, her own brother criticized her for wearing short clothes to wrestle male opponents. She said in an interview,
My brother and other relatives said I exposed my body. But even if I was scolded by my relatives, I didn’t stop chasing my dreams. I was even criticized by my relatives on January 11th when I pinned down a male wrestler less than a minute into a bout. ”

In February 2020, when the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) collected athlete samples for testing, Rani Rana tested positive for the use of a banned substance called anabolic steroids and was suspended from participating in any competition.

- In 2016, Rani Rana received an invitation from Bollywood actor Aamir Khan to star in the movie “Dangal”, but she declined the invitation and chose to continue her wrestling career.
