Ranveer Brar is an Indian celebrity chef, restaurateur, author, television show judge and food columnist. He served as a judge for three seasons (Season 4, Season 6 and Season 7) of the cooking reality show MasterChef India.

Ranveer Singh Brar was born on Wednesday, February 8, 1978, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India (46 years; as of 2024). His family hails from Kotralaka in Punjab. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He attended HAL School in Lucknow. He received his Diploma in Hotel Management from the Institute of Hotel Management, Lucknow. When he was a child, he often accompanied his grandfather to the monastery. There, he used to enjoy watching people making langar. Once, when he was visiting the gurdwara with his grandfather, a cook asked him to accompany him in cooking sweet rice for langal. Slowly, he began assisting in communal cooking. During the interview, he also shared how he became interested in cooking. He said,
One thing led to another, and by the age of 17, I discovered that there was so much more to food than what I had learned in my community and neighbors. After spending many free hours with my friends exploring Old Lucknow at the Nagas and Akbari Gate, I came to enjoy the heritage, respect and stories intertwined with food. I worked with the kebab shop for 8 to 9 months. “
In an interview, he said that local kebab stall vendors in Lucknow inspired him to become a chef. However, his family wanted him to pursue a career in engineering, medicine or defense services. He even cleared the NDA entrance exam, but when he started assisting a vendor named Munir Ustad in Lucknow, he decided to make a career as a chef. Initially, his family was not happy with his decision. Gradually, they started supporting him and he enrolled in IHM Lucknow for a degree in hotel management.

Soon they became friends and fell in love with each other. Ranveer proposed to Pallavi over dinner (cooked by Ranveer) in Marco Island, Florida. The couple had a Maharashtrian wedding. The couple has a son named Ishaan Brar.

In January 1999, he began serving as the lead intern for the Taj Management Training Program. After working there for almost two years, he worked as a sous chef at the Taj Hotel Group in New Delhi. He worked there for two years. While working at Taj Hotels, he founded and ran two restaurants called Il Camino (Italian restaurant) and Morisco (International seafood restaurant). In 2003, he joined Radisson Blu Hotel, Noida as Executive Chef. While at Radisson, he founded two specialty restaurants, a coffee shop, a patisserie and a bar. In 2005, he left his job at the Radisson Hotel and began working at Claridges Hotel as executive chef. At Claridges, he opened two food and beverage outlets, Sevilla (an indoor-outdoor Med-style restaurant) and Senate (a business lounge with a fine dining restaurant). He renovated two restaurants: Jade (a Chinese specialty restaurant) and Pickwicks (a 24-hour restaurant). He worked there for two years, and in 2007, he opened a restaurant called BANQ in Boston, where he served as executive chef. His restaurants have been named the world’s best new restaurants by Wallpaper magazine and have been named best restaurants by local publications including the Improper Bostonian and Stuff. The restaurant subsequently closed permanently. He then began working as a corporate chef at One World Cuisine Hospitality Group in Boston. After working there for about three years, he began working as senior executive chef at hotel company Accor. He worked there until December 2014. He also worked at Oberoi Hotel.

In October 2018, he hosted the travel and food program “Webmaster’s Lunch” broadcast on Living Foodz.
In 2019, he served as the host of the TV show Himalayan Alternative Adventures, which showcased the cuisine of local tribes. The show airs on Zee TV Middle East.
He also hosted three seasons of the cooking show “Thank God It’s Friday” (2014-2016), which aired on Zoom.

- Ranveer’s father affectionately calls him Rangri. In an interview, he shared the story behind the name. He said,
I grew up in a Sikh household and was used to the Sunday “langar” culture. Maybe it was the joy of communal cooking that excited me, or maybe it was the pastor’s constant quest for help in letting me assist him in his cooking. Whatever it was, within a few years I started cooking for myself, which led my father to nickname me “Langri” (meaning temple cook). “
