Rasheed Naz (age 73) was born on Thursday, September 9, 1948 in Peshawar, North West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Pakistan (now 73 years old) as Abdul Abdul Rasheed Naz. He studied till tenth grade at a local school in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Rasheed Naz made his debut as an actor in 1971 with a Pashto TV series. In 1973, he appeared in the Urdu TV series “Aik Tha Gaoon”. This is his first Urdu TV series. However, he rose to fame after appearing in the TV series “Namoos”. In 1993, he appeared in the Urdu TV series “Dasht”, which was broadcast on NTM, Pakistan’s first private channel. In 1998, he appeared in the TV series “Ghulam Gardish” aired on PTV.
He played the role of Hayat Khan in ARY TV’s drama series “Manzil” (2006). In 2012, she appeared in the TV series “Khushi Ek Roag” which was aired on ARY Digital. He has acted in several TV series including “Phir Kab Milo Gay”, “Anokhi”, “Saiban Sheshay ka”, “Inkaar” and “Dayar-e-Dil”.

Rasheed Naaz made his debut in the film industry in 1988 with the Pashto film Zama Jang. In 2001, he made his first Urdu film, Dakait. His performance as Maulana Tahiri in the Urdu film “Khuda Kay Liye” (2007) was greatly appreciated by the audience.
In 2009, he played Ashiq Khan in the English-language film “Kandahar Break”. In 2012, he played Khan Sahab in the Pashto film “Arman”. The actor made his Bollywood debut with the film Baby (2015) starring Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher. He plays terrorist mastermind Maulana Mohammad Abdul Rehman in the film. His son Hassan Noman also appears in the film.
In 2017, he appeared in the Pashto film “Gul E Jana”. The actor has acted in the Hindi film “72 Hoorain”. Later released in English and 10 other Indian languages including Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Thai Mir and Telugu. The film premiered at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2019 and won the ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal. However, the film was released in theaters in 2023 after his death.
He has acted in several Urdu films including Qayamat – An Afghan Love Triangle (2003), Larki Punjaban (2003), Karachi se Lahore (2015), Pari (2017) and Verna (2017).
Awards and Achievements
- In 2009, he was awarded the Pride of Acting Award by the Government of Pakistan for his contribution to Pakistan’s television and film industry.

Rashid Naz passed away in Islamabad, Pakistan on January 17, 2022, at the age of 73. He had long faced health challenges. After his death, his body was brought to Peshawar where his funeral was held.

- After completing his studies, he joined the family business, trading fruits imported from Afghanistan.
- Apart from movies and TV series, he also appeared in the video song “Ishq Mohabbat Apna Pan” starring Iman Ali.
- In an interview, he revealed the story of his entry into the entertainment industry. He mentioned that during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, he and his friends wanted to help those in need. In order to raise funds for this purpose, they organized a variety show, and a Pashto television production company discovered him and later offered him a role in a Pashto drama.
