Ravi Kumar was born in Kolkata on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 (age 18 in 2021). As a child, he moved with his family to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He started playing tennis cricket in Aligarh and later joined Jagdish Dutt Sharma Cricket Academy (JDSCA), Aligarh. He learned the nuances of cricket under the training of coach Arvind Bharadwaj.

Ravi Kumar started playing cricket with tennis balls as a child in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Ravi took his first wicket in the Under-19 World Cup against Ireland when he dismissed opening batsman Liam Doherty for 7 runs. In the quarter-final against Bangladesh, he showed his accuracy by moving the ball both ways and delivering unplayable chip shots. India failed to toss and had to chase. Ravi took one wicket in his first over and took a total of 3 wickets. With a wonderful performance of 7-1-14-3, he was named the best player of the game.
