Red-Haired Cate Blanchett Teams Up with Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart and More in Borderlands First Look (Exclusive)

Cate Blanchett is on a mission to save the universe Borderlands.

In an exclusive first look at PEOPLE’s upcoming film Borderlands, Blanchett, 54, sports a striking red hairdo and battle-ready look as the infamous outlaw Lilith. A mysterious fugitive returns home to his planet Pandora to search for the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez).

Lilith teams up with a group of renegades that includes ex-soldier Roland (Kevin Hart), wrecker Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Tina’s bodyguard (Florian Munteanu), scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and robot Claptrap (Jack Black). ). One photo shows the assembled team peering into the shaft.

Deadline reported that Blanchett was cast as Lilith back in May 2020, with the rest of her cast signed on the following year. Filming began in April 2021 in Hungary and ended in June. Near the end of the shoot, Curtis, 65, shared a sneak peek of the Tar star as Sirena on Instagram.

“Welcome to BORDERLANDS and the secret BTS footage I took of Lilith, our legendary heroine, psycho blast, vault hunting, fox with a bad attitude and two Oscars to add to the nastiness in her tool belt,” Halloween the actress wrote the Blanchett silhouette. “The former and future queen of EVERYTHING, #cateblanchett.”

A film adaptation of the video game series by Gearbox Software, Borderlands will see Lilith and co. fight alien monsters and bandits as they travel Pandora in search of a missing girl. “The fate of the universe may be in their hands – but they will fight for something more: each other,” says the synopsis of the upcoming film.
