Regina King was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Gloria (Cain), a special education teacher, and Thomas King, an electrician. The 51-year-old award-winning actress grew up in View Park–Windsor Hills, California with her younger sister Reina King.

The two sisters’ names mean the same thing
Surprisingly, Regina and Reina’s parents named them so that their names have the same meaning.
In December 2018, her sister told Kelly and Ryan DIRECTLY that Reina and Regina both mean “queen” in Spanish and Latin respectively.
“Regina means ‘Queen’, and her sister’s name, Reina, also means ‘Queen’. What a happy coincidence!” commented the manager.
In response to the statement, the actress said her mother was her father’s second wife, and when the two had their first child, the actress’ mother intended to call her “Thomasina”.
Her father, on the other hand, had a different opinion when he wanted his daughter to have a royal surname. As a result, he came across the name Regina.
“…and there was my sister, who came unexpectedly. And he couldn’t leave her. Reina was her name,” Regina explained.
