Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion Channel Regina George on ‘Not My Fault’ Off the ‘Mean Girls’ Soundtrack: Listen!

Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion have teamed up on a new track that is so reach for it.

On Friday, the singer/actress, 23, and the rap star, 28, released “Not My Fault,” the first single from the original soundtrack for the upcoming Mean girls movie musical.

The song is both a playful nod to Lindsay Lohan’s iconic, mean line in the classic 2004 teen film (“It’s not my fault you’re in love with me or anything!”) and a stand-alone shimmering, disco-pop bop.

While the song opens with scathing words spoken by Lohan’s character Cady Heron to her ex-best friend Janis Ian (played by Lizzy Caplan), and Rachel McAdams’ Regina George said before her, it ends by turning a book-burning remark into a sassy sense of self-love and empowerment.

During this upbeat song, Rapp — who reprises her Broadway role as Regina George in the new film — praises herself and sings about being above the drama.

“It’s not my fault / You came with her but she could go with me / It’s not my fault / You gotta pay for what I get for free / It’s not my fault / You’re like, you’re like, you’re like in love with me ,” the Angel in the snow the artist sings in the chorus over a disco-funk inspired beat.

As the “Cobra” rapper has long referred to herself as “Black Regina George” in social media posts and in bars for songs like “Naturally” and “Outta Town Freestyle,” she couldn’t have fit the song better.

“I mean, who wouldn’t want to be in love with me?” the Grammy winner confidently raps on the third verse. “But I’m told I’m a black Regina George / bikini top, shorts, megan-core / you hated it then, you’re gonna hate it more / I’ve got influence, they do whatever I say / I run with—, be bad bitch is a sport.”

The song was dropped just days after the two stars began teasing it on social media on Sunday.

Just ahead of the release, the H-Town hottie took to Instagram to tease behind the scenes of their promotional shoot. Alongside a mirror selfie of herself dressed in an outfit fit for lunch with the Plastics on Wednesday, she teased: “It’s not my fault you’re in love with me 💁🏽‍♀️.”

And Rapp shared fun photos with the “Savage” artist on Instagram. As soon as the song came out, she posted two shots of her with her co-star in fuzzy, pink hats holding teacups with another reference from the original screenplay written by Tina Fey.

“Not My Fault” arrives a few weeks ahead of the January 12 release date of the much-anticipated new take on the teen favorite.

It marks the first single from the original soundtrack, which is also slated to feature songs from the Broadway musical performed by actors Rapp, Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Avantika and more.

It has not yet been announced if other original songs like Rappa and Megan Thee Stallion will also appear on the soundtrack.

The song is among the first singles the “Bongos” singer has released since going independent, and follows the “Pretty Girls” singer’s breakout year following the release of her debut studio album.
