RHOSLC: Mary Cosby Learns Her Son Robert Jr. Was Secretly Married for a Year: ‘Lord Have Mercy’

Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Jr., is coming clean about the relationship bomb he kept from his mother for a year.

On Tuesday in the episode The Real Housewives of Salt Lake CityThe 50-year-old franchise pal grabbed her son Robert, 20, and confronted him about his “marital status” after hearing rumors about his relationship.

As mother and son sat with cups of coffee, Mary asked, “Why am I hearing rumors that you are married? So if I hear it from people, I want to hear it from you.”

He put a sly smile on Robert’s face as she demanded to know if the rumors were true. He sat in silence and claimed, “I don’t know,” as his mother continued to press him for answers.

It wasn’t until Mary pleaded with the “gentleman” to “let it be no” that the new estate agent admitted, “I think, sort of, yes.”

“It’s like I went to a courthouse,” he admitted, as her eyes popped out of her head and she prayed, “Lord, have mercy.”

Mary, hurt by the lack of participation in her only son’s wedding, asked why he decided to go behind her back. He explained that he and his wife kept the news “under wraps” and that the couple had been married for “almost a year.”

“They both live in my house,” Mary told the cameras. “But I don’t see them often. We kind of have our wings. And one day like, they were getting dressed. He was in a hurry to go do something and he was dressed nicely and she was dressed nicely. But they were running full speed – they were running with all their might, but I didn’t know they were going to get married.”

The reality star expressed her disappointment in her son, noting that he is her “only son” and that she “doesn’t have anyone else” as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“I just have you. I’m going to cry,” Mary said, becoming emotional as Robert assured her with a smile as he sprawled out on the couch. “I’m still here.”

“Don’t be afraid to tell me anything,” she added through tears as he went to hug her.

When she asked her son if he believed he had made the right decision, he answered with a simple “yes,” even though she wasn’t convinced.

“He’s not ready for marriage,” the Bravolebrity said in a confessional interview. “He has no idea that he has to step up. As if he will be the sole breadwinner, I don’t think I will take care of him and her.”

Later in the episode, Mary met with Meredith Marks to explain the drama in her household and briefly shared how desperate she felt about being kept out of Robert’s secret marriage.

Mary returned for the fourth season of the Bravo show as a friend of the franchise after leaving the show before its third season. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in September, Meredith, 51, shared how “great” it is to be back on screen.

“I was really excited to have Mary back because I think she brings a very quirky humor to the show,” she said. “I also like that she’s quite direct and doesn’t hold back her opinion, so I thought it was great that she was back.”
