In April 2023, a video of Rhythm Chanana went viral on social media, in which she was seen traveling in the Delhi Metro in a bikini. Through her Instagram account, she confirmed that she is the popular girl on the subway. In an interview, she revealed that she had been traveling in such clothes for more than a month. Then asked if she follows Indian model Urfi Javed, she replied:
It’s my freedom to wear whatever I want. I’m not doing this for a publicity stunt or for fame. I don’t care what people say. I am not inspired by Uorfi Javed. I didn’t even know who she was until a friend showed me a picture of her recently. However, after learning her story, I still respect her. “
Later, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued an official statement on the entire incident. The statement read,
DMRC expects commuters to adhere to all social etiquette and protocols acceptable to the society. Commuters should not engage in any activities or wear any clothing that may offend other passengers. In fact, Section 59 of DMRC’s Operations and Maintenance Act classifies indecency as a punishable offence. We appeal to all passengers to maintain courtesy when traveling on public transportation systems such as the subway. However, issues such as choice of clothing when traveling are personal matters and passengers should self-regulate their behavior in a responsible manner. “
