Ricardo Cruciani A Neurologist Was Found Dead At Rikers Island Prison

Ricardo Cruciani, a former neurosurgeon and alleged sex offender, died Monday morning at Rikers Island when officers found him in a shower area with a towel around his neck. Ricardo Cruciani, 68, was scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 14 for allegedly injuring at least six patients, according to the New York Times. Prosecutors allege his method was to allegedly get patients addicted to opioids before informing them he would only provide the drug in exchange for illicit services. Prosecutors believe he preyed on victims in New York, Hopewell and Philadelphia for more than 15 years.

According to Fox News, Ricardo Cruciani allegedly walked into a shower at Rikers Prison at 4:23 am. An officer found his body unconscious at 5:35 p.m., according to reports. He died about an hour later. Cruciani’s death remains under investigation, according to New York City Department of Corrections Commissioner Louis Molina.

He stated:

“We will launch a preliminary internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.” Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

According to the New York Post, Ricardo Cruciani, who pleaded guilty to 12 misdemeanor counts of misconduct, planned to fight the verdict after his conviction. He faced the possibility of life in prison.

Cruciani targeted women in multiple jobs and at hospitals, including Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L Bragg Jr. Bragg said in an official press release:

“Ricardo Cruciani deliberately took advantage of the misery of his victims and used his authority as a doctor.”

The conditions at Rikers Island are heartbreaking, deplorable and unacceptable for both the people who are incarcerated and those who are expected to be imprisoned.

He continued:

“When we go to doctors for help, we want them to respect our body and health, but Dr. Cruciani completely failed in that obligation.” dr. Cruciani left six survivors who are now suffering from serious illnesses and years of stress.”

Cruciani’s attorney, Fred Sosinsky, said his client was unfairly accused.

According to Sosinski:

“In the end, it appears that the cumulative weight of the six plaintiffs prevailed, rather than a fair evaluation of each of their questionable statements.”

He continued:

“However, we are confident that the trial court made a number of legal errors that we look forward to correcting in the appellate courts.”

Although Cruciani’s death appeared to be a suicide, investigators have yet to confirm that.
