Rich Homie Quan, 'Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)' Rapper, Dies at 34

Rapper Rich Homie Quan has died at the age of 34.

TMZ reported that the platinum-selling rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on September 5 at his home in Atlanta.

The cause of Lamar’s death is unknown at this time.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Grady Memorial Hospital notified them of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

The artist, born on October 4, 1989, officially began releasing music in 2012 before earning his first major hits the following year with “Type of Way,” as well as YG’s “My N— -” with Jeezy.

He has since earned further chart hits with “Walk Thru” featuring Problem and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” — his highest-charting solo single Billboard Hot 100 — as well as “Ride Out” featuring Kid Ink, Tyga, Wale and YG, “Lifestyles” featuring Young Thug and “Save Dat Money” featuring Lil Dicky and Fetty Wap.

His debut album, Rich as in Spiritwas released in March 2018 and peaked at number 32 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Throughout his career, Lamar has also collaborated with artists including Rick Ross, Keke Palmer, Jeremih, Future, Boosie BadAzz, Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz, among others.

Lamar is the father of four sons — two he shares with Amber “Rella” Williams, plus two from a previous relationship, according to Bckonline.

Shortly after news of Lamar’s death broke, the rapper received tributes from multiple fellow artists online.

Boosie, 41, confirmed reports of the overdose that caused Lamar’s death in a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“I JUST TALKED TO YOUR BRA,” he wrote in another post. “#tipQUAN Never go forget your smile the way you talk n of course your music.”

In a follow-up post, Boosie added: “WE HAVE GOOD MEMORIES TOGETHER THAT ALWAYS BRING A SMILE ON MY FACE #restupquan WE ALSO COOKED WITH—.”

Fellow rapper Playboi Carti paid tribute by sharing several of Lamar’s videos on his Instagram Story.
