The fan-favorite stand-up comedian was 76 when Deadline confirmed his death.

His publicist later confirmed it was the result of a heart attack on Tuesday.

Richard was a comedian who became famous in the 1980s.

He became widely known after appearing on several late night talk shows such as The Tonight Show, The Late Show With David Letterman and The Howard Stern Show.

The TV and movie star played a fictional version of himself on HBO’s hit series, Curb Your Enthusiasm — and even reprized his role in Season 12 alongside Larry David.

He also appeared in Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Once Upon A Crime, The Elevator and the sitcom Anything But Love.

HIS PARKINSON’S BATTLE

In April 2023, Richard opened his X, formerly Twitter, account for talk about his health.

“Three and a half years ago I was in the middle of a tour and then I finally finished it with a show and I said ‘You know, I’m at the top of my game, after almost 50 years I’m just going to call it quits.'”

“Then, out of the blue, the s**t hit the fan. I had four operations back to back. It was unbelievable, I couldn’t believe it. It was bad luck, but that’s life, you know?”

“I had back surgery, then I had shoulder surgery, then I had shoulder replacement surgery and hip replacement surgery. So, you know, there was a lot that I was focusing on [physical therapy].”

– In addition to all that, two years ago I started walking a little stiffly, moving my legs and I went to a neurologist and they did a brain scan and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

He revealed that he was lucky enough to catch the disease early enough that it progressed slowly and that he was on the right medication so he was “cool”.

He went on to say that he is done with standup comedy and wants to focus on writing and acting.

LARRY DAVID’S TRIBUTE

On Wednesday, Larry shared an emotional tribute in a statement shared by HBO.

He said: “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and he was like a brother to me for most of my life. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and the sweetest at the same time.

“But he made me cry today and I’ll never forgive him for that.”

‘ICON OF COMEDY’

Friends and fans flooded social media to share their condolences and funny moments with Richard on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

“Sadly, the great Richard Lewis has died,” Bette wrote on Twitter.

“A brilliantly funny man who will be missed by all. The world needed him now more than ever,” said actor Albert Brooks.

“Richard Lewis and Larry’s friendship was always one of the best parts of Curb. RIP,” one fan tweeted.

“Richard Lewis forever,” said another, “Rest in peace icon of comedy.”

A third wrote: “Richard Lewis was not just a comic, but someone who left everything on the table. His vulnerability was simply charming. We’ve lost a good one.”
