He attended high school St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, New York, and later graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1974. Pitino began his coaching career in Hawaii in 1975 and has since coached various college and professional teams, including the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, University of Kentucky , University of Louisville and Panathinaikos BC. During his career, Pitino won numerous awards and honors, including two NCAA championships (1996 and 2013), four conference tournament championships and nine regular season conference championships.
