Graceland is in the firm hands of Riley Keough.
From August 2023 Daisy Jones and six actress, 35, acted as sole trustee of her late mother Lisa Marie Presley’s estate and owner of her grandfather Elvis Presley’s beloved mansion in Memphis, Tenn.
“I hope to continue what my grandmother did [Priscilla Presley] did, and then my mother did, and it’s just to preserve our family home,” Riley tells PEOPLE via email for this week’s cover story.
Keough also chairs the sub-foundations of her 15-year-old sisters Finley and Harper Lockwood, Lisa Marie’s daughter from her marriage to ex-husband Michael Lockwood from 2006 to 2021.

This week’s PEOPLE cover features the first excerpt from Lisa Marie’s memoir, From here to the Great Unknownwhich Riley completed after her mother’s death at age 54 in 2023 from a small bowel obstruction that developed after she underwent bariatric surgery a few years ago.
In order to complete the memoir, which she promised her mother to write before she died, Riley listened to the memory tapes that Lisa Marie recorded.
“Because my mother was the daughter of Elvis Presley, she was constantly talked about, argued about and dissected,” says Riley. beneath the cover idea of the magazine and discover the core of what she was to turn into a three-dimensional human being: the best mother, wild child, fierce friend, underrated artist, honest, funny, traumatized, joyful. , grieving — all that she was throughout her remarkable life, I want to give voice to my mother in a way that eluded her while she was alive.

In her memoir, Lisa Marie talks about her father Elvis’ love and how much she struggled after his death; her romantic relationships; balm of motherhood; the devastating death of her son Benjamin, Riley’s brother, in 2020; and the lifesaving birth of her granddaughter, Riley’s 2-year-old daughter, Tupelo.
“The footage is an incredible portrait of the force of nature as it was,” says Riley. “Depending on the day and her mood, she can sound closed or distracted, vulnerable and open or resentful and closed, hopeful, angry, everything. You hear her in all her complications.”
Even on the most painful topics, Riley adds, “There wasn’t much we didn’t talk about and I know she knew how much I loved her, just like I know how much she loved me, my brother and sister. I don’t feel that she or I left anything unsaid, for which I am deeply grateful.”

As Riley prepares for the public spotlight to revisit her mother’s story, she also looks forward to the day when Tupelo, who she shares with stuntman husband Ben Smith-Petersen, can read it.
“This is one of the greatest privileges of the whole thing,” says Riley. “Not everyone has a book to read about their grandparents. It is unique to our family. And that’s really a gift.”
