Before marrying Ritu Singh, Ravi was engaged to veteran Indian actress Amrita Singh in 1986, but the two broke up due to personal conflicts. In 2008, Ravi and Ritu gave birth to a daughter, Aleka Shastri. After nearly 22 years of marriage, Ravi filed for divorce in 2012 at the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai. After the divorce, Ravi left his home in Worli, Mumbai and moved alone to his home in Churchgate, Mumbai.
