Prior to the start of The International 12 (TI12), the biggest Dota 2 competition of the 2023 season will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the Riyadh Masters 2023. The group stage of the Riyadh Masters 2023 is scheduled to start on July 21 and end on July 24. All group stage series will be best of two games (BO2), with a round-robin format for the group stage. The top four teams in each group advance to the top bracket of the playoffs, while the fifth- and sixth-place teams advance to the bottom bracket. Eight of the 20 participating teams have already qualified for the group stage based on their results in DreamLeagues 19 and 20. The remaining 12 teams compete in a single round-robin, best-of-two match after qualifying via EPT and MENA qualifiers. The top two teams will advance to the group stage before a short elimination bracket begins where four more teams will be eliminated from the competition.

The group stage begins with two groups of eight teams each playing a best-of-two match. The top four teams go to the top bracket, followed by the next two teams going to the bottom bracket, and the bottom two teams are eliminated. The competition then moves to double playoffs, which are more enjoyable. Except for the best-of-five championship game, each series is a best-of-three game.

The group stage of the Riyadh Masters 2023 starts on July 21 and ends on July 24. During this time, the bottom two teams from pools A and B will be eliminated from the competition. 48 series will be played during the first three days of the group stage or 16 series per day.
