RJ Chaitu is an Indian radio jockey, YouTuber and TV presenter. As a radio jockey, he is famous for hosting two of the highest-rated radio programs, “Zabardasth Masti” and “Midnight Biryani” on Red FM, Hyderabad.

Chaitanya Basava was born on Wednesday, August 2, 1989 (32 years old; as of 2021) and hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Leo. He attended TCMA English Medium School in Vijayawada. After his father died, he went through a painful childhood. At the age of 12, he began to make money by doing odd jobs such as courier delivery. He has been very talkative since he was a child and participated in many interactive activities at school.

He completed his intermediate studies from Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada. Once, during his college days, he attended a live concert by singer-songwriter Devi Sri Prasad. The singer’s performances and interactions with people sparked Chaitu’s interest in becoming an entertainer. In 2008, he moved to Hyderabad to study at Osmania University while pursuing further opportunities. He also pursued a diploma in animation from Arena Institute in Dilsukhnagar. In an interview, he recounted his busy schedule in Hyderabad and said:
I went to animation classes in the morning, went to college in the afternoon and worked in a call center in the evening. I barely slept during that period. “
During those days, he also listened to the radio programs of RJ Raaj and RJ Prateeka, which motivated him to become an RJ.

Profession
Before venturing into the radio industry, RJ Chaitu worked in various places including shopping malls, call centers and gift shops. He was rejected as a radio host six times because of the accent he picked up while training in a call center. In 2009, he got a job when RJ Kajal of Red FM in Hyderabad invited him to audition for the Outdoor Broadcasting (OB) radio show. With permission from the office, Chaitu went for the audition, but he was skeptical. At the audition site, he was noticed by the program director who heard Chaitu live and immediately hired him to participate in the OB program “Red on the Road”. He started his journey as a jockey at Red FM radio station in Hyderabad on September 11, 2009.

Chaitu’s work in the show OB gave him the opportunity to host the show “Midnight Biryani” in 2013. Chaitu gained a following by giving uncharacteristically motivational speeches on her midnight show to cheer on callers. The next morning, his audience showered him with love. He recalled the incident in an interview, saying:
The next morning, I received 250 emails from people telling me that they deeply connected to what I said that night…I realized that people have certain emotions and need someone to express them…So, If through my medium I can make someone’s day better, I will continue to do so.”
Since then, Chaitu has added an inspiring message at the end of the show every day. In 2015, he became the host of another show “Zabardast Masti”. The show subsequently won the title of Best Radio Program (Non-Breakfast – Telugu) at the Excellence in Radio Awards (ERA) in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. Additionally, Red FM Hyderabad was awarded the title of Best FM Station South at ERA (2016).

He started his career in 2010 as a television host on the Telugu music channel Maa Music (now Star Maa Music). Later, he launched many popular TV series such as “College Style”, “The Vow”, “Chai Biscuit”, “Must Pass”, etc.

In 2015, he hosted the IPL in Hyderabad. In addition to hosting various events and television shows, he also works as a voice-over artist.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, he started a now-defunct YouTube channel called ‘Chatterbox Chaitu’. Noting that there is no real program that contains both games and interviews, he breaks this space by introducing the show Chatterbox Chaitu’s Challenge (2021) on his channel. The game show is divided into four parts – each challenge is 1 minute, 30 seconds, 20 seconds and 10 seconds, which arouses the curiosity of the audience and the celebrities participating in the game. The first episode of the show starring Syed Sohel, Akhil Sarthak and Ariyana Glory became a hit on YouTube and reached 1 million views in a week.

In 2021, he established an eponymous YouTube channel where he interviews friends, plays games with them, posts random vlogs, and takes on food challenges.
In 2022, he appeared as a contestant in the Indian Telugu reality digital series Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022) and joined Team Challengers.

- On Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022), RJ Chaitu revealed that he faced body shaming since his childhood. He admitted this while naming ace choreographer Nataraji, claiming that the latter body-shamed him during the show.
- In an interview, he revealed that his family supported his decision to become an RJ even though they knew nothing about the field. He said,
I started making money early. So, my mother and brother, even though they had no idea what the hell I was doing, they always believed that I would figure it out. They thought, ‘Edo okati chesesthadu le veedu’. “
- Recalling an interesting incident from his mother, Chaitu revealed in an interview that once, his mother video-called him on the train to show off her popular son to other passengers.
- In an interview, he revealed his hidden talent and said that he is a young singer who sings songs for his radio channel Red FM Hyderabad.
