After an initial investigation, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office delayed the release of a cause of death, which could take weeks to determine.

It’s standard procedure for the LAPD’s Homicide Robbery Division to investigate high-profile cases, according to TMZ.

Matthew reportedly went into cardiac arrest and was unresponsive when his assistant found him in the jacuzzi at 4pm on Saturday.

His employee frantically called 911 and mentioned the drowning in a 15-second audio recording.

Police have confirmed that the death is under investigation, but there is no doubt that it was foul play.

Matthew has been candid about his struggles with drink and drugs and health issues.

No narcotics were found at the scene, but authorities found antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication and medication for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

On the morning of his death, Matthew was playing pickleball with a racket with a friend, who revealed the star had been feeling unwell and “tired” for the past week.

His colleagues from the series Friends said an emotional goodbye to the actor.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow shared a joint statement.

“We are all so completely devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than co-stars. We are family,” they said in a statement, first obtained by People.

“There is so much to say, but right now we will take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

We will say more over time, as and when we can, the press release states.

“For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”

The note was signed by each of his colleagues.
