On Friday, January 13, Robbie Knievel, an American daredevil who made about 350 jumps and set about 20 world records, died. He was 60 years old. Knievel, also known as Kaptain, was in hospice care during his dying battle with pancreatic cancer, reports the American gossip site TMZ. According to the site, Robbie’s children were by his side when he died early Friday morning, according to a family source.
He was the son of iconic stuntman and entertainer Evel Knievel, who was known for some of the most difficult and death-defying motorcycle stunts during the 1970s. Robbie began accompanying his father on tour at the age of 12 and apparently played Madison Square Garden for the first time at a show before the jump.
People are paying tribute to legendary stuntman Robbie Knievel on Twitter.
As soon as TMZ broke the news of Robbie’s death, netizens began reacting on numerous social networks, including Twitter. Many others sent memorial notes to the daredevil performer, recalling the legendary and risky feats he did throughout his career. A Twitter user praised Robbie and compared him to his father, noting that the late stuntman “was the same daredevil who [his father] was.” Among Robbie’s fans was American media personality and star of Discovery Channel’s Fast N’ Loud reality TV show, Richard Rawlings.
Many followers loved Robbie, and one of them even shared his boyhood dream of becoming a stuntman:
“Just found out #robbieknievel has died. As a youngster I used to see my dad and later Robbie jumping on their motorbikes. That’s why I had a motorbike. I never fulfilled my boyhood ambition of being a stuntman, but I enjoyed watching their stunts #RipLegend. “
The pet account posted a heartfelt tribute to the late daredevil, while another netizen explained how Robbie and his father had entertained fans for years.
A fan of Robbie’s has brilliantly summed up his work over the years:
“Captain’ Robbie Knievel, the son of the famous Evel Knievel (already at the age of 8 he accompanied his father in challenges and dangerous endeavors on a motorcycle), whom he followed in his footsteps. In NINJA III: DOMINATION he played a stuntman. “Rest in peace.”
Robbie’s father, Evel Knievel, was one of the most famous stuntmen of his era, touring the United States. Captain Robbie Knievel followed in his father’s footsteps and managed to perform some of the most incredible and stunning jumps. In 1989, Robbie was allowed to jump in the fountains at Caesars Palace to honor his father. His other famous feats included jumping over 30 limousines and a fake volcano in front of the Mirage Hotel, as well as his jump from the Grand Canyon. Although Robbie died of pancreatic cancer, there are no sources that confirmed how long the daredevil had been ill. His two daughters, Krysten and Karmen, survived him. Kane and Analise, his grandson and granddaughter, are also his children.
