Robert De Niro Admits He Doesn’t ‘Do the Heavy Lifting’ Raising Baby with Tiffany Chen: ‘She Does the Work’

Robert De Niro gets candid about his parenting duties.

The 80-year-old actor, who welcomed his seventh baby, daughter Gia Virginia, his first with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, in April, recently opened up about life with his new child, sharing Guard it is “going well”.

“It doesn’t get any easier,” he said of parenting. “It is what it is. It’s okay. I mean, I’m not doing the heavy lifting. I’m here, I’m supporting my girlfriend. But she’s getting the job done. And we’ve got help, which is so important.”

He was asked if Silver Linings Playbook star is enjoying fatherhood, he replied: “Of course I am”, adding that he is enjoying “all of it”.

“It’s different with a baby [than] with her 11-year-old. My grown children. My grandchildren. Everything is different,” he continued.

“Well, I don’t talk to grown kids the way I talk to my baby or the way I talk to my 11-year-old, even though she’s pretty smart,” he continued to explain.

In May, De Niro revealed that he had fathered his seventh child during an interview with ET Canada while discussing parenting and his recent film, About My Father. His co-star Kim Cattrall confirmed shortly after that De Niro had welcomed a baby with girlfriend Chen.

De Niro and Chen first sparked dating rumors by dating on Palm Sunday in August 2021. The couple met a few years ago while filming a movie together in 2015. Chen, a martial arts instructor, had a role in Internwhich starred De Niro.

The actor officially introduced his daughter to the world in one episode CBS Morning in May. Revealing her full name – Gia Virginia Chen De Niro – the actor shared a photo of her and said she was born at 8 lbs., 6 oz. on Thursday, April 6.

While they later appear on TODAYDe Niro opened up about fathering a newborn “at this stage and age.”

“It feels great, yeah,” he said at the time.

Asked how his parenting has evolved over the years, the father of seven said, “I have a certain awareness — when you’re older, you have an awareness of certain things in life, the dynamics, everything, family dynamics.”

He continued: “You can’t avoid learning certain things and how you can deal with them and manage them and this and that, the usual. It’s amazing, but I’m very happy about it.”
