Romina Pourmokhtari started her career in June 2012 at Eastern Real High School in Stockholm as an IT assistant. She worked there for about three months. In 2014, she started working as a waitress at Tehran Grill AB in Stockholm, Sweden. She worked there for about a year before joining Urban Deli, a bar and restaurant in Stockholm, as a waitress. At the same time, she also provides private tutoring in subjects such as mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry and English at Studybuddy AB.

In 2014, Romina Pourmokhtari joined the Free Youth Association of Greater Stockholm (LUF) as a campaign worker. In October 2016, she joined the Liberal Party as a political advisor, responsible for cultural issues in the Stockholm region. She has been active as a political consultant for about three years. In the same year, she was promoted to member of the Swedish Free Youth Council.
In 2018, Romina was elected as the vice president of the Free Youth Association, becoming the first person to become the vice president of the association. In 2019, she became president of the Free Youth Association. Over the years she has been involved in political issues related to education, feminism, integration and the prevention of honor oppression.
While serving as president of the Free Youth Association, Romina advocated that conscription should be replaced by purely professional defense. She also asserted that the parent Liberal Party should stick to its liberal immigration policies. In September 2022, she resigned as president of the Free Youth Association. In the same year, she ran for the Swedish parliamentary elections on behalf of the Liberal Party from the Stockholm County and Stockholm City constituencies. Pulmokhtari ranked sixth on both lists and was elected to parliament. On October 18, 2022, Romina was appointed by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christiansen as Minister of Climate and Environment in the right-wing government.

In February 2014, while Romina was still in high school, she and a group of people started a non-profit project called Jag Har Aldrig (meaning Never Have I Ever) to influence first-time voters in Stockholm. The organization’s motivation was to invite 2,000 participants to an event to discuss political issues in a pleasant environment. In the same year, she participated in the project “Coriander Absorption of Copper in the Human Body” and received a scholarship at STÅT, the international science fair in Åbo, Finland. In June 2021, Pourmokhtari became a member of the board of directors of the association RFSU (Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning), a non-profit organization established in Stockholm for sex education. She has been involved with the NGO ever since. In 2022 she authored the book Chicken Nuggets På Krita.
