Ron Howard’s 4 Children: All About Bryce, Paige, Jocelyn and Reed

Ron Howard’s children continue his family’s Hollywood legacy.

The Happy days star and his wife Cheryl, with whom he has been married for almost 50 years, have four children: daughter Bryce Dallas (43), twins Jocelyn Carlyle and Paige Carlyle (39) and son Reed Cross (36).

Several of the actor-turned-director’s children have followed in his footsteps, pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. They also started families of their own, making Ron and Cheryl grandparents to six grandchildren.

In an interview with S. in 2010 ParadeRon said the secret to raising children is “laughter”.

Humor is inevitable, he said. “It may not seem funny in the moment, but more often than not there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you can personally look back and find laughter in being a parent.”

Ron added, “I think I’ve probably learned more and grown more because of being a father than for any other reason.”

While talking to The Daily Beast In 2020, his eldest child, Bryce, had nothing but praise for her famous dad, who has been her sounding board when it comes to both acting and parenting.

“It’s an incredible privilege to be the child of someone who works in an industry you’re interested in and will eventually work in,” she told the news outlet. “For that person, it’s a privilege to have success in itself.”

She continued: “But there was no greater privilege than the fact that my dad supported me, empowered me and showed me respect, real respect from day one.”

Bryce Dallas Howard, 43

Ron and Cheryl’s eldest child, daughter Bryce Dallas Howard, was born on March 2, 1981. Bryce is famous in her own right, having established a successful acting career.

The Golden Globe nominated actress rose to fame after starring in the 2007 film. Spider-Man 3 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse In 2010, she acted in films such as Help, Pete’s kite and Rocketmanamong others, but she is best known for her character in Jurassic World movie franchise.

Unlike her father, Bryce didn’t start gaining acting credits until she was an adult.

“I think if I had the opportunity to act younger, I would take it. But I wasn’t allowed,” she told PEOPLE in February 2024. “My parents were very firm about that line, that they’re not going to support anyone who wants to be a child actor. ”

Bryce spoke very openly about what it was like growing up with a famous actor and director for a father. In the interview for 2020 Los Angeles Timesrevealed that she hid her last name from her peers when she was a student at New York University.

“I was insecure about it when I was younger,” Bryce recalled. “When I went to NYU, I didn’t want to tell anyone my last name and I said, ‘No, Dad, you can’t come see my play because people might recognize you.’ ”

In retrospect, Bryce says that was “short-sighted” of her. Now, she couldn’t be more proud to carry the Howard family name and has even secretly paid tribute to her father in her work — like Apollo 13 nod The Mandalorianwhich she directed.

The feeling goes both ways. In 2018, Ron told PEOPLE that Bryce inspired the opening scene of his film Parenthood.

Bryce and her husband Seth Gabel have been married for almost two decades. The couple married in 2006 and have two children: son Theodore Norman and daughter Beatrice Jean.

Paige Carlyle Howard, 39

Paige Carlyle Howard makes up one half of the couple’s fraternal twin daughters, who were born on February 5, 1985.

She is also an actress and has been a guest on 90210 and Arrested developmentalthough she is best known for her recurring role as Natalie Walsh in the TV series stem SPEAK. Paige made her film debut in 2009 Adventureland.

In addition to acting, Paige is also an author of children’s books. She published her first book, Pigeon in Paris: Petite escapesin April 2023. She announced the news on her Instagram, writing, “This story has been a whisper in my heart for many years. To be able to hold it in my hands and share it with all of you is truly a dream come true.”

In May 2022, Paige and actor Timmy Abou Nasr married in an outdoor ceremony in New York’s Central Park after getting engaged in July 2019. Ron officiated and Bryce was a bridesmaid.

Bryce celebrated her little sister’s big day in a sweet tribute on Instagram. “Congratulations to the newly married couple,” she wrote alongside a carousel of wedding photos. “Even though it took an entire pandemic to get to this special moment, I can’t think of a more perfect day to celebrate the two of you. Tim, I am filled with gratitude and joy to call you my brother!!”

Jocelyn Carlyle Howard, 39

Paige’s twin sister, Jocelyn Carlyle Howard, was also born on February 5, 1985.

Jocelyn did not follow in her family’s footsteps in the entertainment world and prefers to stay out of the limelight. She is not active on social networks either. The only time fans can get a peek into Jocelyn’s life is on her twin sister’s Instagram. Occasionally, Paige shares birthday tributes and photo memories of the Howard siblings clan.

“The 35th time around the sun!” Paige captioned a celebratory birthday post of her and Jocelyn with their significant others in 2020. “Best birthday ever! 35 means so much to me – especially with my beloved twin sister, Jocelyn Carlyle Howard-Charbeneau by my side.”

Reed Cross Howard, 36

Born on April 12, 1987, Reed Cross Howard is the director’s only child.

Reed also did not pursue a career in entertainment and instead took an interest in sports. He is now a professional golfer and has amassed an impressive following on Instagram and YouTube, where he frequently posts golf videos, how-to’s, drills and more.

Despite bouncing from city to city as a child for his dad’s job, Reed says his parents always tried to make family time a priority.

“My mom was amazing in the sense that we grew up just traveling everywhere, wherever my dad was shooting his next movie,” he said in an interview promoting Bryce’s documentary dad. “Instead of my mom just staying at home with the family and my dad traveling around, she knew my dad was a big family guy, so every time we moved … she would find a house to rent and new schools for us.”

He continued, “My dad was working so hard on the movie, all that coordinating stuff that he wasn’t that active in… So he was very active at home. He’d be there for us and we could go to set up and release with him.”

Reed is a dad himself. He shares a daughter, Aspen Leigh Howard, with his wife Ashley Howard.
