Ronald Powell, the former Florida player, has died suddenly, shocking fans and supporters of the NFL. On Monday, one of Ronaldo’s old colleagues shared the tragic news of the footballer’s death on social media. Powell, a former football star, was only 32 years old and a few months shy of 33. Ronald Powell was born on May 14, 1991 in Riverside, California, USA. He attended Rancho Verde High School and played defensive end, linebacker and tight end. Powell was one of the most sought after high school players in the country. Later, after high school, he received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida.
As a freshman in 2010, he started one game and played in 13 others. He became a full-time starter for the Gators in his second season, appearing and starting in 12 games. During his football career he played for the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Orlando Apollos.

Ronald Powell was a legendary Florida Gator and NFL player known for his unwavering determination on the field. He was known for his collegiate and professional football experience. The death of Ronald Powell shook the football community. Many mourners expressed immense grief and sorrow at the unexpected death of such a young man. Sadly, Powell died on January 15, 2024. His old teammate, Junior Galette, broke the news of his death.
Galette and Powell played together for the New Orleans Saints in 2014. Both were in the outfield players’ room. Furthermore, Galette wrote in X, “Love you forever until we meet again, EXCELLENT FATHER, respected brother and loving son.” I am heartbroken to inform the rest of the world that Ronald Powell died earlier today. “Rest in power, Ronald Powell.” However, the relevant parties did not reveal more information about his death. Similarly, Powell’s family, Florida or any of the NFL clubs he played for have not released an official statement. Some reports indicate that his death was caused by medical complications, but this has yet to be proven.
Injuries prevented his career
Ronald Powell’s professional football career was an example of endurance and dedication. The New Orleans Saints selected Powell in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He showed potential during his rookie year, playing in 14 games before being placed on injured reserve in 2015. Although athletes often get various injuries, he suffered serious injuries during the match. Unfortunately, this setback marked the beginning of many obstacles Powell would face throughout his professional career.
Despite all these challenges, Powell persevered in his football aspirations. He even moved from the Saints practice squad to the Chicago Bears practice squad before joining the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. Powell’s injuries, however, added obstacles to his brief professional soccer career with the AAF Orlando Apollos. On January 9, 2019, the organization placed him on the waived/injured list. This is why he ended his football career in 2019.
